    Benson gets scholarship Victoria Benson, daughter of Max and Christine Benson of Steptoe, has been awarded an Alumni Family Member Scholarship for $1,000 for the 2013-14 academic year at Eastern Washington University. Victoria graduated from Colfax High School in 2011. She is currently a sophomore studying government.     Kathy Dawes, who is affiliated with the Palouse Discovery Science Center, will lead a Kamiak Butte campfire program on Galileo’s telescope Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m. Participants will learn how lenses work and assemble a kit telescope like the one Galileo used to study the moon and to discover the major moons of Jupiter.     Dusty Art and Colene Sager and granddaughter Jullene Sager were in Spokane Saturday afternoon to attend the piano recital of their other granddaughter, Hannah Manning, Valleyford. The recital was at the Steinway Auditorium in Spokane Valley. All of the pieces were duets, many of them performed on two baby grands.     A total of 83 motorcycles hit the road from Colfax Sunday in this year’s Ride for the Cure. Five cars also participated in the ride which is a Relay for Life benefit. An estimated $2,000 was raised for the event. Riders departed the Les Schwab parking lot on the Walla Walla Highway and followed a 100-mile route which went through Endicott, St. John, Rosalia and Tekoa before ending with a luncheon at Fredneck’s in Rockford. After talking about how to combat rising costs at the town sewer plant for the past several months, an ordinance to raise rates $2 per month was on the agenda for the next city council meeting June 11.
