    CHATTAROY - The Lost Apple Project announced seven apple varieties believed lost or extinct were found in old orchards in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. David Benscoter and the Temperate Orchard Conservancy (TOC) identified the apples collected in the fall of 2020 in the Palouse area.     COLFAX — Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) issued a drought advisory for Whitman County and 28 others across Washington. Year-to-date moisture on the Palouse is tied for the sixth-lowest since 1940. Precipitation from January to present is 6.18 inches, which is tied with the amount recorded in 1994, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).     COLFAX — Whitman County elected officials to get a 7% raise next year, while the sheriff’s pay goes up 10%. The county’s volunteer salary commission met on May 18 to decide the pay scale for 2022. Last year, no raise was provided for 2021 as a result of tighter budgets after the arrival of COVID-19.
