One in 16 residents experience food insecurity - when people run out of food, eat less, skip meals, or go hungry, or when they subsist on a nutrient poor diet, because they cannot afford to buy food. On the second Tuesday of each month, food is distributed from the food bank in Colfax and anyone needing food can come. About 80 people come to Colfax each month.     Whitman Hospital Auxiliary members are celebrating Christmas with two trees this year. The auxiliary’s Angel Tree is on display next to the Blue Bird Gift Shop in the waiting room at the hospital entrance. Bright white angels decorate the tree that is reserved for donations in memory or to honor loved ones. Any contribution amount is welcome and proceeds go to the hospital auxiliary.     Colfax Chamber of Commerce has scheduled Thursday, Dec. 5, for the lighted Christmas Parade. The day will also include events at the Colfax library including pictures with Santa from 3 to 5 p.m. Entry forms for the parade have been sent out by the chamber.     The format for the Firemen’s Toybox which serves families around the county has changed this year. Families who visit the toybox will be asked to obtain an application at one of several locations around the county. The Toybox for years has operated with the state DSHS office which listed families who could visit the toybox. That service will not be available this year.
