  • Colfax runs the table for 12th state title

    Colfax volleyball rolled out a 12-game state campaign Friday and Saturday to end their fall campaign with the state trophy in their clutches. The Bulldogs brought the 2B cup home from the finals at the SunDome for the first time since 2009. The 2B trophy has been the property of the Reardan Indians who had a three-year run of championships with last year’s coming on a dramatic title finish over Colfax.   • Healthy Tekoa Coalition gets grant to extend project

    The Healthy Tekoa Coalition has been selected for a $6,500 grant from the Washington Department of Social and Health Services. The funds will continue the work of the group which was formed in 2012 after Tekoa was chosen for funding by the state’s Department of Behaviorial Health and Recovery. The town was selected as one of 52 communities in Washington which had higher-than-average drug and alcohol use according to the state’s biennial healthy youth survey.   • CETC sign goes to fairground

    The electronic signboard on the front of the CETC building has been scheduled to be removed and taken to the Palouse Empire fairground at Mockonema. The sign could eventually be used to advertise different events during the year at the fairground, but a plan for installation has not been worked out at this time. The electronic sign is mounted on the front of the building and was used to advertise upcoming events. It was not included in the listing for the auction sale of the building last week.     The Palouse Cares Food Drive is gearing up for the Dec. 7 drive. A silent auction table is set up in Rosauers inviting people to bid on auction items donated by area businesses. The auction closes on Dec. 7 at noon. Proceeds from the auction go to the food drive. Additional food drive locations have been set up at the Whitman County Library, Subway and Whitman Hospital.   • Collison on 195 takes life of Pullman woman

    A head-on collision last Friday morning on Highway 195 took the life of a Pullman woman and injured the drivers of both vehilces. Rodella N. Wickard, 60, Pullman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a passenger in a 1993 Chrysler LeBaron which was driven by her husband, Gerald E. Wickard, 57, also of Pullman. Driver of the other vehicle was Douglas E. Hinchey, 35, Spokane. He was driving a 2009 Chevrolet three-quarter ton truck with a box on the bed.     The Town of Endicott received a seventh consecutive clean audit in a report from the State Auditor’s Office in October. The report said results of the independent audit from Jan. 1, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2012, found that the town’s internal controls were adequate to safeguard public assets. The report also stated that the town also complied with state laws and regulations and its own policies and procedures in the areas examined.     Colfax City Council members Monday night approved a one percent hike in tax revenues for next year on a 5-2 vote. The vote came after a formal hearing which is now required before towns can approve any increase in tax revenues. The measure will bump Colfax tax revenue by $3,888 for next year. Total tax revenue for the city will be $392,970. The vote for the one percent increase came after City Treasurer Mark Clinton gave a rundown of the city's upcoming budget.     Partners Scott Ackerman and Ken Hanson of Colfax-based N Hot Water are the new owners of the former Community Education and Training Center building after out-bidding other buyers at the Nov. 13 auction.     Commissioners look at possible changes Whitman County commissioners Monday continued to discuss the 2014 budget, but this time started asking for information about possible cuts in hours of operation of the courthouse and attrition cuts.
