    Malden Library has moved into its brand new location with a larger collection and new hours. Hours are Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Librarian Shannon Roe credited Dan and Carolyn Sturgeon, Fran Maxwell, Trevor Main and Josh Roe for their effort in preparing, moving and setting up the new building. Fence Menders of Malden added their support in setting up the new library. Malden Summer reading begins June 24 at 5 p.m., lasts an hour and runs for six weeks.     The evening of June 7 was the annual Garfield-Palouse FFA banquet starting with a potluck dinner. Following dinner, the opening ceremony was conducted by the 2009-2010 officers team with President Garret Pfaff, Vice President JB Lange, Sentinel Blake Slocum, Reporter Tiona Shea, Treasurer Kristin Nelson and Secretary Katie Dill.     Maggie Weber of Colton High School and Nyna VanHarn of Garfield-Palouse High School are winners of Whitman County Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) $200 scholarships. Six $25 scholarships and two $200 grand prize drawing scholarships were awarded to participating teen advisors.     Dusty The thunder, lightening and rain storm last Thursday caused some local damage. Art and Colene Sager had more than a foot of mud wash into their barn and yard. They received 1.4 inches of rain that afternoon. Kim and Cindy Pitts had their computer fried by a bolt of lightening that hit near them.     Colfax UMC to launch monthly meal program Colfax United Methodist Church will host its first monthly community meal next Thursday, June 24, beginning at 6 p.m. The church plans to host a free meal on the fourth Thursday of each month to meet what church members feel is a real need to support families in the area.     Penny and Ken Niles are wrapping up careers that placed them in several positions around Oakesdale school. Penny has served as the Oakesdale secretary since 1984. Ken has served as the maintenance director since 1995, and taught at the school for 10 years in the 1970s.
