Storm takes toll in Dusty area

The thunder, lightening and rain storm last Thursday caused some local damage. Art and Colene Sager had more than a foot of mud wash into their barn and yard. They received 1.4 inches of rain that afternoon. Kim and Cindy Pitts had their computer fried by a bolt of lightening that hit near them. It also knocked out the phones and on-line services for several homes in the area.

Saturday, Vicki Broeckel and Michelle Carver attended the live performance of Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” at the Spokane Arena. Among the special guest performers were Wylie Gustafson and Scott Wilborn, his fiddle and steel guitar player in his band, “Wylie and the Wild West.”

Friday, Herbert and Delilah Morrison, Caldwell, Idaho, came to visit her niece Colene and Art Sager. Saturday, the Sagers attended the graduation of their granddaughter Sarah Manning from Freeman High School. They also attended a party at the home of her parents, Don and Gaylene Manning, after graduation ceremonies. Sunday, Floyd and Linda Sager of Meridian, Idaho, arrived to spend several days with his brother and sister-in-law.

Peter Appel, son of Steve and Dianne Appel, and Lauren Ryan were married Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman. Luke Morris was one of the groomsmen. Jennifer, Mashayla and Quincy Morris also attended the wedding.

Bill and Marie Wenger of Yuma, Colo., arrived Wednesday night for a visit with her former Whitworth College roommate, Joan and Lucky Myrick. Saturday, the Wenge’s treated the Myricks to a country dinner show at State Line called “Rockin’ B Ranch” to celebrate the Myrick’s 50th wedding anniversary.

Kim and Cindy Pitts attended the LaCrosse High School graduation exercises Saturday to see Cindy’s niece, Samantha Bafus, daughter of Bob and Leanne Bafus, graduate. Also attending were the Pitts’ children and grandchildren, Amanda, Rafe and Tate Carlson of Spokane and Jen, Ryan, Kellen, Becket and Willa Erickson of Meridian, Idaho. The Ericksons recently moved to Meridian from Phoenix.

Graham BeDell, son of Angela and Brian Broeckel, received the Presidential Physical Fitness Award at the eighth grade graduation at LaCrosse. He achieved the 80th percentile in all five categories.
