Garfield-Palouse graduates receive local, college awards

Garfield and Palouse groups provided more than $16,000 in scholarships for members of this year’s graduating class. In total, the Garfield-Palouse graduates have received approximately $600,000 in scholarship offers with many of them four-year college awards.

Breanna Bielenberg: Lewis-Clark State College Western Undergraduate Exchange ($6,000 per year).

Emily Boone: I.O. PEO Chapter ($500), Round Table Club Betty Anderson Memorial ($500), Palouse Grain Growers ($250), Xenodican Club ($500), Palouse Community Scholarship ($500), Garfield-Palouse Education Association ($300), SACK ($400), Turkey Leg 2009 Sponsored by the Green Frog and Palouse Library ($200), Palouse Empire Fair Princess ($250), University of Hawaii Western Undergraduate Exchange ($22,198).

Gavin Burt: Steve Cocking Memorial Scholarship. Steve was a member of the class of 1979 at Garfield High School. He was a good student as well as a good athlete. He died tragically in a farming accident at the age of 19. His family established this scholarship in his memory. They wanted the award to go to a student who was a good citizen of the school…someone who was not only respected by the staff but also by their fellow students. ($250), Walla Walla Community College Basketball Scholarship ($600 per year), Blue Mountain Community College Basketball Scholarship…amount TBD.

Taylor Christopher: Palouse Lions Club: $1,000, Liberty University, Liberty Champion Scholarship ($11,000), American Musical and Dramatic Academy ($1,000).

Melissa Cochran: Chapter AE PEO ($500), Palouse Grain Growers ($250), Garfield Women’s Club/Ladow Grange #995 ($250), Garfield Lions Club J. Palmer Trimble Scholarship ($400).

Nicholas Cocking: Garfield Lions Club Scholarship ($400), Palouse Grain Growers ($250), Round Table Memorial Scholarship ($500), Ellis & Neta Schaffer Memorial Scholarship ($60), Tim Dawdy Scholastic Athlete Award: This award is presented to the student athlete who participates in the most sports and maintains the highest Grade Point Average.

Megan Cooper: Creativity in the Arts Award from the Palouse Arts Council and Will Murray ($500), Lewis-Clark State College Western Undergraduate Exchange ($3,000 per year for 4 years).

Katie Dill: Palouse Grain Growers ($250), Palouse Community Scholarship ($300), ASB Memorial Scholarship ($250) The Associated Student Body of Garfield-Palouse H.S. has established a memorial scholarship fund. This fund accepts donations in the names of loved ones to provide scholarships for our students. This year, the scholarship is donated in the names of Joe Hall, Norma Brantner, Tom Nagle, Jacob Demand, Mark & Jane Howlett, Patty Bofenkamp, Virgil Dunning, Bill Wolfe, Tom Thompson, and Gail Iverson., Brad Baunsgard Memorial Scholarship: $500.

Schadoe Gamet: American Association of University Women Washington: Outstanding Achievement in Technology Award ($200).

Lacee Hendrickson: University of Idaho Lambda Chi Alpha Scholarship ($1,500).

Elizabeth Ann Leendertsen: Xenodican ($500), Palouse Grain Growers ($250), Round Table Club ($500), Washington State University Volleyball Scholarship amount to be determined.

Rebecca Nelson: Round Table Club ($500), Leendertsen-Styer Memorial Music Scholarship ($200), Oakesdale Masonic Lodge ($300), Garfield-Palouse Education Association ($300), Alli Bennett Memorial Scholarship ($500), American Association of University Women, Palouse Lions Club: $1,000, Washington Outstanding Achievement in Math & Science Award ($200 each), Washington State School Retirees’ Association Foundation Scholarship ($1,500), Washington Association of Secondary School Principals Excellence in Education Scholarship ($1,000), Washington Association of School Administrators/PEMCO 21st Century Educator Scholarship ($4,000), Bethesda Lutheran Communities-Develop-mental Disabilities Awareness Award ($500), Girl Scout Award (amount pending), Pacific Lutheran University President’s Scholarship ($72,000), Pacific Lutheran University Member Church Scholarship ($4,000), Whitworth University Mind and Heart Scholarship ($56,000), Whitworth University Academic Scholarship ($8,000), Gonzaga University Regents Scholarship ($48,000), Gonzaga University Funding Scholarship ($22,000), University of Idaho Western Undergraduate Exchange ($35,200), University of Idaho Honors Program Scholarship ($6,000), U of I Presidential Scholarship ($12,000), U of I Achievement Scholarship ($1,500), Washington Scholars Program – District 9 Washington Scholar Award, Washington State Honors Award for ranking in the top 10% of the graduating class in the state of Washington.

Erika Newman: University of Idaho Western Undergraduate Exchange ($8,891 per year).

Garret Pfaff: Chapter IO PEO ($500), Palouse Grain Growers ($250), State Bank Northwest Memorial ($500), Halpin Award for Math and Science, McGregor Family Scholarship ($1,000), Brad Baunsgard Memorial Scholarship: $500, Cochran-Blair FFA Scholarship: $250, University of Idaho Western Undergraduate Exchange ($9,147 per year), University of Idaho Presidential Award ($1,000), Eastern Washington University Presidential Academic Award ($2,500), Central Washington University Academic Award ($2,100).

Lee Roach: University of Idaho Western Undergraduate Exchange ($8,891 per year).

Celeste Rossi: Turkey Leg 2009 Sponsored by the Green Frog and Palouse Library ($200), University of Idaho Academic Competitive Grant ($7,500).
