    On a few occasions I have been asked questions like, “Are there too many hospitals on the Palouse?” or “Should Whitman Hospital combine with the Pullman and Moscow hospitals?” People who ask theses questions are usually wondering if we could save money by combining hospitals.     Lamont Earl Swift left June 24 with Roger and Sunny Swift and Clay Roy for a fishing trip out of Prince Rupert, B.C. The group didn’t catch as many fish, but Earl caught the last and biggest, a 40 pound salmon. Earl reported they encountered cold weather and conditions one day that were too rough to fish. Normally they were out for 12 hours per day. They came home via a more scenic route through high mountains. The group arrived home July 2.     Dusty The Jones Schoolhouse is scheduled to be moved from its current location, a few miles east of Dusty, for more than 100 years to its new home on the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds at 9 a.m. July 14. Anyone who plans on being on Highway 26 between Colfax and Dusty that morning should be advised to possibly find another route. Plans are for the schoolhouse to become a meeting place for small groups and a museum of early educational days in Washington.     Jerry Shea doesn’t have an airplane on his property east of Colfax and the company that launched his flying career is long gone. But for retired pilot Shea, the memories of his 35 years flying for Pan American Airways and United Airlines are still alive and well.     Three Maryland women were hurt early July 1 in a rollover accident on Highway 26 about three miles west of Colfax. They were transported by ambulances to Whitman Hospital for a checkup. According to the Washington State Patrol report, Cynthia M. Johnson, 50, Fort Washington, Md., was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound about 4:50 a.m. and swerved to miss a deer.     Poe Asphalt of Pullman Tuesday was awarded an $868,287 contract to repave just over five miles of the Wawawai-Pullman Road. Poe was the lowest of three bidders on the project. The firm will repave the road from the top of Steptoe Canyon at Smith Road north along Union Flat to the Hatley Road intersection. The county estimated the price tag at $938,898.     A charge of failure to report an injury accident was filed last Thursday, July 1, in Whitman County superior court against Richard Pasma, 25, former live-in boyfriend of Kristen Grindley. Grindley was found severely injured on the Albion Road in the early morning hours of Nov. 11.     Charges of malicious mischief in the second degree were filed July 1 against two Puyallup residents who were WSU students last November. Taylor W. Garvins, 22, and Wesley King, 18, were charged.
