    Winners of the second annual Rosalia Christmas Tree Contest were announced Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Budding Rose Art Gallery. First Place: Rosalia Lions Club who entered a 11 foot live “Charlie Brown Tree” decorated with birds, nests, dried grass, wheat, moss and even a Coo-Coo-Clock.     Harold Brincken A service for Harold (Butch) Brincken, 84, retired Latah area farmer, was Monday, Dec. 7, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley. Internment was at Rosewood Cemetery near Fairfield, Monday morning. Mr.Brinken died Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Wheatland Hills Assisted Living Center in Fairfield.     This has been an exceptional year for WHMC. We have a new hospital that has received rave reviews from our patients. WHMC is on sound financial footing, at least for the time being, and we are also moving quickly to implement a wide number of initiatives to improve patient safety and the quality of patient care. A couple of other points worth noting for this year: WHMC received its highest marks ever on our Press-Ganey Report (Patient Satisfaction Survey).     Two charges of vehicular homicide were filed Wednesday in superior court against Victor J. Marly, Milton Freewater, driver of a Chevrolet Trailblazer which collided with a Toyota Camry Sept. 19 in a double fatality accident on the Walla Walla Highway south of Dusty. The accident took the lives of a Lewiston couple, Ronald West, 64, and Frances West, 72. Prosecutor Denis Tracy filed one charge for each of the two victims.     Whitman County commissioners extended the county’s contract with Darry-Air, Inc., Ephrata, to spray noxious weeds in county-owned rights-of-way in the county’s three road districts.
