    Advance sale of discount tickets for the carnival rides at the Palouse Empire Fair will go on sale Aug. 1. The fair this year will sell the tickets at its office and at Four Star Supply outlets in Colfax and Pullman. Fair secretary Terry Jeffries said the fair this year had cut down on the number of discount outlets because of the costs of distribution. The Northstar one-day tickets will be sold for $15, a three dollar discount, from Aug. 1 to Sept. 4. After that the tickets will be sold at the regular on-grounds price of $18. Northstar will...

  • Charge alleges pistol threat

    John Clay Bordley, 31, pleaded not guilty Friday to first degree assault for allegedly waving a pistol at Julius Rock, a staff member of Anytime Fitness in Pullman July 11. According to the Pullman police report, they responded to several reports of a man waving a pistol around at the fitness shop on Bishop Boulevard. The arrest report filed with the charge said Bordley told officers he was assaulted at Anytime Fitness when he went there to get a drink of water.     Daniel Lazcano, 22, again waived his speedy trial rights following the rejection Friday of a plea bargain agreement which could have sent him to prison for up to 27 months on a conviction of second degree manslaughter.     Colfax and Pullman branches of Bank of America are among 51 which have been acquired by Washington Federal Bank. The acquisition was announced July 18 along with a quarterly earnings report by Washington Federal. The bank branches are located in Eastern Washington, Idaho, Oregon and New Mexico. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year subject to approval from the Office of the Controller of the Currency.     Bagpipers Sandy Farrell and Dick Bratton of Polson, Mont., played last month at the Onecho Cemetery in a burial service for Charles Thomas Elliott of Polson. He was buried on the family site near his grandmother, Rose Adams Elliott. Mr. Elliott was a long-time friend to the two pipers and during his retirement years resided in a caboose which had been converted into an apartment by Bratton.     A possible location of a trailhead for the John Wayne Trail at Tekoa could be in the area of the Tekoa Rodeo Arena which is located in the northwest corner of the city near the former Milwaukee trestle. Development of a Tekoa trailhead proposal advanced last week when Washington State Parks officials announced it was among proposed projects listed for $331,000 funding along the trail in Whitman County.
