Too Slim tour

due at Tekoa

Too Slim and the Taildraggers, one of the Northwest’s legendary blues/rock groups, will return to the Empire Theatre in Tekoa, Friday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. Thanks in part to their album Shiver being nominated for Blues Rock Album of the Year in 2012, the band will tour seven states preceding their Tekoa appearance next Friday.

They also plan a concert in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

They have just released a new recording entitled Blue Heart, which debuted at number three on Amazon top 100 contemporary blues album sales chart. Throughout their career they have sold more than 100,000 albums and played for audiences in excess of 50,000.

Band leader Tim Too Slim Langford recently relocated to Nashville. Originating in Spokane, the band is comprised of Langford on vocals and guitar. He is joined by bass player E. Scott Esbeck and percussionist Jeff Shakey Fowlkes.

Advance tickets are $20 and are available by calling 284-517, or 284-2000 or for purchase at Tekoa AmericanWest Bank. Admission on show night will be $25.

Free clay classes

set at Dahmen

Dahmen Barn resident artisan Carole Galloway will offer two free Fimo clay workshops at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown Aug. 9 for kids 6 to 12. Carole’s goal with these workshops is to spark the imagination of the students and have them successfully complete a product.

She will give basic instructions on how to work with the clay which comes in a rainbow of colors and is baked in a regular oven to cure. She will have the students make some sheep, then they can let their creativity fly on imaginary animals.

The morning session will be 10:30 to noon and the afternoon 1 to 3 p.m. Deadline to register will be Aug. 6

Library to host

UNI lab at CRF

A portable reading room will be in Colfax as part of the Concrete River Festival Friday and Saturday.

The UNI(verse) Lab is a result of a partnership between the Foundation for Early Learning and the Early Learning Public Library Partnership (ELPLP). The Lab is a street level learning zone supporting science, technology, engineering and math for young children. Kids and parents may peruse a selection of books and participate in interactive activities such as balances, hand bells and counting machines.

As an ELPLP partner, Whitman County Library was chosen for this statewide project to help supplement their summer reading outreach efforts and programs. The UNI Lab, a portable reading room, is a product of Street Lab, a non-profit organization based in New York and was developed with the “conviction that books and learning should be prominent and accessible.”

UNI Lab will be located next to the Colfax Library on Friday from 1 – 6 p.m. and Saturday at Eells Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
