    The two-day Colfax Junior Rodeo at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds brought 180 contestants for the two days. Competition at the event, which marked its 40-year edition, was in five different age divisions from Little People (5 & under), Peewees (6-8), Juniors 9-11), Intermediates (12-14) and Seniors (15-18). Winners received custom-made buckles which are purchased by the Colfax Junior Rodeo group from donations made by local businesses and supporters. Eng headed the Colfax softball team for six years and this year led the Bulldogs to a sixth-place finish at the state tournament at Yakima.     Senior Josh Brown set a Colfax High School record in his last toss of the discus May 30 in the state 2B competition at Cheney. Brown with his last throw of his high school career hit 171 feet, eight inches. The mark bumped a C.H.S. record which was set more than 18 years ago by the late Joe Hall, according to Colfax Coach Jason Cooper. The Colfax mark was 158-11. It will occur in Winnemuca, Nev., from June 30-July 5, and the high school students who placed 5th-15th at state in Kennewick will participate there.     A flagger had cars stopped southbound between Colfax and Pullman. Construction crews have been working on a seven mile stretch of Highway 195 since mid-May. Washington State Patrol troopers responded to a report of a rear-end accident last Thursday in the construction zone for roadway grinding and paving which is now underway on Highway 195 between Pullman and Colfax.     A civil suit was filed by Pre Mix, Inc., against BN Builders, Inc., June 3 in superior court here. The suit alleges $331,000 due Pre Mix for materials supplied to the contractor during construction to a WSU Northside Residence Hall Phase 2 project. The sum remains unpaid and a claim was filed April 21. The suit asks the court to order payment out of the construction retainer fund said held by WSU.     The Port of Whitman County commissioners Thursday discussed where the Boyer Marina project stands to date. The project is expected to add 13 new RV sites to the campgrounds as well as four cabins. There are already 32 full RV hookup sites, 16 partial RV hookups and seven tent sites.     Charges of fourth degree assault and unlawful imprisonment were filed June 1 against a 16-year-old Garfield juvenile. He was arrested after officers responded to a report May 29 from the high school at Palouse of a youth grabbing an elderly woman, covering her mouth, placing her into a vehicle and driving away.     Susan Lynch A longtime Endicott teacher has retired with the close of the 2014-15 school year. Susan Lynch, 70, taught language arts/ social studies, home economics and Pacific Northwest history for 25 years at Endicott Middle and Elementary School. She also taught yoga for 12 years.     Superior Court Judge David Frazier ruled Friday that Ruddy Aladina's statements made at the time of his arrest last December can be used at trial. The ruling was made after Aladina's attorney, Steve Martonick, reported the defense agreed with the prosecutors that Pullman officers did not delay in reading Aladina his Miranda Rights prior to his arrest in order to obtain a confession.     Connie Dorman, LaCrosse teacher for 38 years, has retired. Dorman was the kindergarten teacher at LaCrosse for 33 years. She taught second grade for five years before taking the kindergarten assignment.     A second major marijuana case in Whitman County has been dismissed under court rulings made in the wake of state voters’ approval to legalize marijuana. The case involved a May 7, 2014, raid on an alleged marijuana grow operation along Highway 26 near LaCrosse. A total of 410 marijuana plants were allegedly confiscated in the case. The raid resulted in charges of manufacturing marijuana against Mark Brown, 47, then of Pullman, and Peter A. Manning, 51, who resided at the alleged grow site.     Port of Whitman County commissioners last Thursday approved a $400 budget for a pancake breakfast June 27 at the Colfax Airport, now the port’s Business Air Center. The breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. will be part of a fly-in sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) chapter in Lewiston. The Rotary Club of Colfax will serve the pancake, egg and sausage breakfast. Benedict Road is the subject of a homeowner’s proposal for a name change to “Moys Road,” after Harvey G. “Bud” Moys, a late farmer in the area.     A charge of second-degree murder was filed in superior court June 3 against Erik C. Luden, 24, who was arrested in Pullman May 30 after the body of his father was found in his Pullman apartment. At his arraignment Friday Luden entered a plea of not guilty to the charge and his trial date was slated for July 20. Luden was booked into the county jail here early May 31 where he is being held on $500,000 bail which was set at a first appearance in court Monday.
