    After winning the state championship in basketball in a journey which included a dismissal of Sunnyside Christian, the Colton High baseball team may be on a similar quest. Set to play in the state baseball final on Saturday vs. Oakville in Centralia, the Wildcats got there by beating Sunnyside Christian 19-0 May 24, followed by a 9-6 win over Liberty Christian.     Colton and Touchet met last Saturday to decide who got the No. 1 seed to state and the Wildcats took it definitively, 14-2. After four innings and a tie score of 1-1, Colton blew open the game in the fifth inning with 13 runs.     It was named “The Oleander.” It began as a sleeper car on a railroad that once ran freight and passenger trains to the tip of the Florida Keys. Today, the 1948 former Florida-East Coast Railway car is stored on tracks at the edge of Palouse. It’s the only passenger car along a stretch of other rail cars stored on the inert tracks.     Final chapter for high school track will get underway when qualifiers from area B schools compete Friday and Saturday in state finals at Eastern Washington University.     A collaboration between the city of Colfax and the Colfax High School class of 2017 is underway. Mayor Todd Vanek began a series of meetings with the freshman class this winter to introduce a restroom-construction project for Schmuck Park which the students will be involved in bringing to reality.     The hot rods are coming and they’d best get here early. Palouse’s 10th annual Spring Barbecue and Hot Rod Gathering will take place on Main Street Saturday. “We busted out of our seams last year and had to turn people away,” said Marc Van Harn, owner of Vintage Velocity Rods and a founding member of the Knuckleskrapers Car Club which puts on the show.
