David Morgan

March 22, 1932 - February 3, 2023

Born March 22, 1932

Stepped into heaven February 4, 2023

Just shy of 91 years on this earth God called our father home.

Born in St. John on March 22, 1932, David was the second child born to Willard and Bertha Morgan. He joined his sister Beverly, and later they greeted their two brothers, John and Richard. The Morgan family unit complete, our dad was raised on a ranch at the end of Manning Road. The same place he spent his last days, independent, in his own home overlooking the flat and the river where he spent his youth.

His early years were filled with family, farm work, school, and discovery. He learned to be an inventor: his mind was always working on projects he planned to get to. He learned to be a hard worker: rising early in the morning to do chores for his father and his mother. He learned to care for animals: cattle, horses, pigs, chickens, and the many cats and dogs that graced his life. He learned to be an engineer: making old, tired farm equipment continue to serve the family farm, sometimes with haywire and duct tape and other times with a part re-imagined from scraps around the shop. He learned to be a scholar and a teacher, constantly challenged by his father, Willard, who talked to his children as adults discussing the books he read and explaining the how and why of the tasks they were tackling so it was not just "do this". David became a farmer at a young age, accepting the responsibility and stewardship of the land he was privileged to care for throughout his life.

David and Virginia Schluneger met in elementary school, where they were both part of the gymnastics squad. Mom often said she knew right away he was the one for her but dad was not convinced at first. Eventually David came around and they married September 15, 1951.

Their family grew to include their son, Alan(Cathy) Morgan residing on the Onecho farm Virginia inherited from her family, Gloria(Roy) Lord residing on the Manning farm David inherited from his family, and Cindy(Ron) Peterson residing in Scottsdale, Ariz.

David always put his family first and saw to it we were all raised in a healthy church family and well-grounded in the Bible. He loved small children, and his heart was burdened that they should come to know the path of salvation. As he aged, he began to realize that young men and women did not notice an older man walking beside them. He began to make a special effort to encourage the young talented people he encountered. He started carrying individually wrapped peppermint life savers in his pocket so he could offer them as an ice breaker. He wanted to live his life "in such a manner that others would see the peace he possessed in his heart and would be able to ask him how and why he was so blessed. "He wanted you all to know and embrace the love of God, the forgiveness, and the blessed peace with which he left this life.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses, by nine grandchildren (in birth order: Justin(Bridgett) Morgan, Rachel(Ben) Kovanda, Shannon Lord, Shelby Morgan, Patrick Lord(Michael Tucker), David(Kristi) Peterson, Courtney Lord(Joshua Castro), Derek(Jordan) Peterson, and Dylan(Breanna) Peterson) and 16 great-grandchildren (in birth order: Mark(Eliza) Morgan, Matthew, Ashley, Beth, Kayla, Emma, Audrey, Azure, Annie, Roahm, Ellie, Peyton, Flynn, Kinsley, Percival and Wynter), by his two brothers, John Morgan and Richard(Darlene) Morgan. And by countless nieces and nephews whom he often included in his prayers.

David was a long-term member of the Onecho Bible Church. A celebration of his life will be held there by his family and friends, on Friday, February 10 at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside beforehand at 10:00 am at the Onecho Cemetery. Memorial gifts in David's honor are suggested to Gideon's International or to Wycliffe Bible Translators.
