Serving Whitman County since 1877

Roy Fry

Oct. 4, 1931 - Oct. 5, 2018

Roy Fry was born October 4th, 1931 to Roxey and Mabel Fry in Spokane, Washington. He passed away October 5th, 2018 at Whitman Hospital in Colfax, Washington, surrounded by his family.

Roy's family later moved to Newport, Washington, where he attended and graduated from high school. While in school, Roy spent his summers working for Pend Orielle Electric and became a full-time employee after graduation. Roy stayed on with the company when it was bought out by Inland Power and Light soon after.

As a young adult, Roy went off to serve his country in Germany.

After returning home, he met his wife Barbara Harmon and they were married in January 1957. In the same year, Roy was transferred to Rosalia where he and Barbara made a loving home and raised their three daughters. After 37 years of dedicated service, Roy retired from Inland Power and Light in 1987. While living in Rosalia, Roy served on the Rosalia Volunteer Fire Department where he made many life-long friends.

Roy was the type of man who you would want to punch and by the end of the conversation was your best friend.

Roy had many hobbies to keep him busy after he retired. He loved restoring old cars, antiques, yard sales and tinkering in his shop for hours. Most of all Roy loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Although Roy was a man of few words, he loved visiting with friends old and new. He was always there to lend a hand for his family and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara; his parents; and sisters, Helen and Marjorie.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Fry, Spokane, Valarie (Jeff) Black, Spokane, Jodie (Gary) Widman, Rosalia; grandchildren, Nicole Jefferies, Levi (Amy) Vandyke, Suni and Sami Wood, Royce Fry and Whitney Black; great-grandchildren, Tate and Trenton Carlon; sister, Betty Jane, and many nieces and nephews.

Per Roy's request we will not be holding a service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy's name to the Rosalia Volunteer Fire Department, 607 S Whitman Ave., Rosalia, WA 99170.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Whitman Hospital, as well as, Dr. Johnson (Anthony, PA) and Dr. Mellor.
