Inez L. Broweleit, 91, a longtime Colfax, Washington resident and recently of Spokane Valley, Wash., passed away, Jan. 14, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Spokane Valley, Wash.

Inez was born March 29, 1926 in Dodge, N. Dakota, to Alfred & Gertrude (Bergum) Pederson. She grew up in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Following graduation from high school in North Dakota, Inez moved to Bismarck, N. Dakota, where she attended school at Bismarck Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1947. She moved to Colfax, Wash., in 1948 and began her nursing career that spanned many years. On November 15, 1951, Inez married Elmer Broweleit and together they made their home on the family farm outside Colfax on the Almota Road. Inez was a loving and devoted farm wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, quilting, gardening, canning and cooking. Inez was a devoted woman of faith throughout her life and was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine (Wayne) Myers of Spokane Valley, Wash .; three grandsons, Kevin (Hannah) Myers; Jason (Nikki) Myers and Mike (Kierrian) Myers; three great-grandchildren with one on the way; her sister, Marilyn Benjamin; two brothers, Doug (Lynn) & Jerry (Bobbie) Pederson; and her sister-in-law, Erin Pederson. Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1991; daughter, Gail Broweleit in 1999; and three brothers.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, WA. Burial will take place at the Colfax Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. To 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Lucinda Ann “Cindy” Jones, 75, longtime Colfax, Wash., resident, passed away Jan. 20, 2018, at the City View Adult Family Home in Colfax. Viewing will be held at Bruning Funeral Home on Jan. 25th and 26th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax, Wash.

Cindy was born July 25, 1942 in Seattle, Wash., to Richard & Elizabeth (Richards) Cruver. As a little girl, Cindy grew up in Seattle, Wash., and San Diego, Calif., before the family settled in Anchorage, Alaska, where she received her education, including a fifth grade classroom in a quonset hut and junior high years in Spenard, a suburb of Anchorage. Cindy was involved with the YMCA during her teenage years as they sponsored many youth activities. She even became a counselor in their summer camp and had a lot of experience with kids. Having two younger brothers and enduring their hi-jinx was good training.

Following graduation from high school in Anchorage, Cindy attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., where she received her bachelors degree in biology.

It was here that she met Larry Allan Jones and they were married on June 4, 1964, in Seattle.

They honeymooned in Hawaii and started real life in Colfax.

Their first home was a little one-bedroom house on South Mill Street.

As her family grew in size, she designed their home on Riverside Lane, which was completed in 1976.

Larry’s love of travel and Cindy’s love for the outdoors kept their young family busy exploring the Pacific Northwest.

Eventually discovering their future cabin retreat to Priest Lake to enjoy family time together.

She also loved visiting Hawaii with her family.

Cindy was a loving wife, proud mother, grateful grandmother and homemaker her entire life, as well as an active community member. Cindy was a member and past secretary of the Whitman Hospital Auxiliary, Colfax Preceptor of Beta Sigma Phi, Peace Lutheran Church, former Colfax School Board Director and former secretary at Jones Truck & Implement.

She is survived by her five children, Krista (Jody) Boyd, Eric (Robin) Jones, Casey (Kelley) Jones and Julie (Lee) Stilson all of Colfax, and Kelly (Emily) Jones of Santa Barbara, Calif .; 14 grandchildren, Amber (Weston) Sellars of Colfax, Alexandra Boyd of Colfax, Reginald Jones of Cheney, Christopher, Riane, Ella, Grace, Jack, Ike and Cruver Jones all of Colfax, Led and Katy Jones both of Santa Barbara, and Abigail and Brady Stilson both of Colfax; Cindy also has three great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Everleigh and Lucy Sellars.

Cindy is survived by her two brothers, Richard Cruver of Everett, Wash., and Mark Cruver of Eagle River, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents; and a granddaughter, Audrey, in 2004.

Corriene Ann Thompson Liotta, longtime Colfax matriarch, passed away, January 18, 2018, in Tualatin, Oregon, where she had recently moved to be closer to her daughters. She was 95. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colfax on July 3rd.

Corriene was born November 24, 1922, in Colfax Wash., to Lue and Anna (Harter) Hofer, the youngest of three children (Irene Morton and Charles), and was raised on the family farm. Her young life included chores, schooling in a one-room schoolhouse, boarding school in Colfax and attending CHS. She attended WSU for two years then returned home at age 19 to help out on the farm after her mother died.

She met John Robert Thompson in 1945 and they corresponded for two years. They married in 1947, and had six children, Beth (Steve) Condon, Cathy (Ron) Karten, Joseph Thompson, Irene (Paul) Coppa, John (Chris) Thompson, Jean (Jim) Powers.

Corriene was an extremely gifted homemaker; sewing, cooking and gardening. While in Ohio she started a foster parent club with several neighborhood women and was always active in the Catholic Church.

Their homes included Colfax, Wash .; Bozeman, Montana; Follansbee, West Virginia, and Steubenville, Ohio. A few years after John Robert died, 1967, she moved with her three youngest children back to Colfax to live on the original Hofer Family homestead. In the following years, her other children and their families eventually moved out to the Pacific Northwest.

In 1981 Corriene married Al Liotta, a widower with 12 children; Patty (Phil) Shadden, Karen (Ron) Orlando, Mike (Char) Byrd, Theresa (Skip) Hollis, Mark (Lyla) Byrd (d. 2014), Annette (Bernie) Fischer, Guy (Shawna) Byrd, Yvonne Adams, Joanne (Terry) Eng, Maria Liotta-Shindler, Anna Liotta, Charles Liotta.

They lived in a large farm house where Al had moved with his family from Pullman, Wash.

In Colfax, Corriene was involved with the Church Altar society, coordinated funeral dinners and volunteered at the hospital gift shop.

She also learned to play golf (Al was a PGA-Professional at the WSU golf course) and was an avid reader and card player.

She frequently hosted large dinners for holidays and many other family events.

After the children left home, Al and Corriene moved into a retirement home (Hill-Ray Plaza) in Colfax, in 2002.

Al passed away October 2012.

In January 2016, she moved to an assisted care facility near Portland, Oregon, and was visited and cared for daily by her daughters.

Corriene is survived by her six children, 11 step-children, 50+ grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral services and interment for Dolores Stark Moore were Jan. 19, 2018, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver. She died Jan. 10, her 91st birthday.

Born Jan. 10, 1927, at Hay to John Fred and Mary Grassi Stark, she grew up in that area and graduated from Hay High School in 1944.

She worked at the Whitman County Health Dept. in Colfax until marrying Arthur Moore in 1946. They later moved away from the area.

Dolores is survived by four sons, Donald, Steven, Byron and Wade; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Laura Lloyd of Spokane, and Rosetta Clifton of Boise. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years.

Edward Lowell Moys was born July 20, 1933, and passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018.

In his early years, Lowell enjoyed taking trips with his mother, Layne Storment, to visit various places around the United States. He was a graduate of Colfax High School, class of 1951 and attended WSU for a year and a half, playing drums in their marching band. Lowell then went on to serve in the Army, and on one of his leaves, he came home to marry his high school sweetheart, Sharon

McClintock, on August 8, 1954.

Lowell was a hard-working man who held multiple jobs, from farming, landscaping, small business owner and sales. He retired in 1998, and it was then that he and Sharon started their eight-year journey traveling around the U.S. in their motor home. They spent the majority of the winter months in Palm Desert, where they eventually ended up calling home for twelve years. Although retired, Lowell still worked driving semi and landscaping during the summer months in Colfax.

Lowell had a real passion for life. He loved spending his time with his family and friends, camping and motorbike riding. He especially liked taking his grandchildren to the Oregon Coast every summer and even more so, he loved that he got to spend his life with his best friend, traveling and meeting new friends. Lowell had an infectious smile and could get just about anyone to carry on a conversation with him. He was a patient man, always willing to listen and share his wisdom.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sharon; his son, Jeff (Kelly) of Brush Prairie, Wash .; and daughter, Marla Morrell (Bret) of Walla Walla; his four grandchildren, Melissa Lowery (Justin), Kyle Moys (Shauna), Brett Baker and Kayla Morrell; nine great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Lynne McClintock; nephew, Don McClintock (Elaine); nieces, Trudy Libey (Gary) and Lori McClintock, and “little brother” Stuart Deysenroth. He was preceded in death by his mother, Layne; and brother-in-law, Stan McClintock.

Keith Alan Organ, 54, passed away peacefully at his home on Kodiak Island, Alaska, on January 8, 2018. Keith will be honored at a memorial celebration of his life Feb. 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Hill-Ray Plaza. Friends and family are invited to bring their “Keith stories” to share.

Keith was born to Lewis Dean Organ and Reva June (Urness) Organ, November 18, 1963, in Colfax, Wash. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1982. He was a team captain of the Colfax varsity football team when the team won the state championship. Keith was also team captain of the wrestling team.

Shortly after graduation, Keith drove his Grandpa (Vance) Urness’ old pickup to Alaska to begin working as a commercial fisherman and shipwright with his brother, Glenn, out of Chiniak, Alaska.

A talented mig welder, Keith built 40 aluminum fishing boats between fishing seasons.

In 1988, he purchased the Abby Jo, his brother’s first boat and began his career as a fishing boat captain.

He continued to purse seine for salmon in the summers throughout his life and, in the off season, to take on various welding, net mending and custom fabricating jobs connected with the fishing industry.

Keith also got his pilots license, purchased a Piper floater plane and worked for several years as a bush pilot.

Keith and Gina Falla were married on February 17, 1990 and had two children, Rosalind Jane and Jacob Dean. Keith loved Kodiak and remained living there throughout his life where he enjoyed taking his kids on fishing, camping and boating adventures, hunting in remote spots on the island and improving upon his property by building a shop, a bridge over his creek and a guest house.

Keith is survived by his brothers, David Organ of Caldwell, Idaho, and Glenn Organ of Olalla, Wash .; a sister, Janice Westbrook of Kendrick, Idaho; two children, Jacob Organ of Kodiak, Alaska, and Rosalind Gilliam of Chugiak, Alaska; their mother, Gina Organ of Chugiak; and grandchildren, Brody, Griffin, Tyler and Torynn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Reva Organ of Colfax.
