Obituaries: Nov. 30, 2017

Nancy L. Flechsig, 78, Pullman, died at Bishop Place Memory Care Villas, Pullman, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017.

Born on Nov. 17, 1938, in Fall River, Mass., to Lydie and James Fletcher, she moved with her family to Auburn, Wash., where she attended Auburn schools. She and Alfred Flechsig dated and after graduating from Auburn High School, they set off for Washington State College. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

They were married Aug. 30, 1957, in Auburn, and remained in Pullman while Al completed his education. After Al graduated, he accepted a faculty position in WSU’s electrical engineering department.

The family temporarily located to Madison, Wis., and later to Baton Rouge, La., as Al completed his MS and PhD degrees, respectively. Nancy applied her secretarial skills to typing both Al’s thesis and dissertation. While in Baton Rouge, she additionally began her own career as a secretary at church. In 1968, the family returned to Pullman, and Nancy accepted a secretarial position in the WSU Agronomy department. She later became secretary for Gladish Middle School.

Al’s retirement as electrical engineering professor at WSU in 2003 was followed shortly by Nancy’s own retirement from the Pullman School District.

They both loved to travel nationally and internationally, attend Cougar football games and spend time with their daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of the WSU Alumni Association and the Cougar Athletic Fund.

Surviving are daughters, Becky and Jenny; three grandchildren; sister, Norma Smith of Yakima, and brother, James (Ruth) Fletcher of Auburn.

She was preceded in death by her husband Al.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at the Pullman Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. with a memorial gathering after the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Al and Nancy Flechsig Fund for Lab Improvement (contact WSU Foundation at 509-335-6686, or 800-GIV-2-WSU [448.2978]), Boost Collaborative, or Special Olympics.

Jeanette L. Rogers, 65, Princeton, Idaho, died Nov. 23, 2017, at the Good Hope Adult Family Home at Pullman.

In accordance with her request, a formal service will not be conducted.

Born July 6, 1952, at Moscow, Idaho, to Bernard and Dorothy Ackerman Odelin. she attended the Potlatch schools and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1970. She attended the University of Idaho and received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She also received her master’s degree in education.

Jeanette was employed by the Potlatch School District in 1977 and was a substitute teacher and also was the librarian at Potlatch High School.

She married Albert Rogers May 31, 1975, at Potlatch, Idaho, and they made their home at Princeton, Idaho, where Mr. Rogers owned and operated the Princeton Tavern since 1977. Mr. Rogers died Aug. 10, 2005. Jeanette later retired in 2014 after 37 years of service.

She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and embroidery.

Jeanette later was a companion to Gary Kampster for about seven years and his daughter, Kasey, was very important to her. Mr. Kampster died in July of 2017.

She is survived by two sisters, Molly Best (Terry), and Deanna Mitchell, both of Post Falls, Idaho.

The family suggests memorial gifts go to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855.
