Edna May Holbrook

A memorial service for Edna May Larson Holbrook, 100, Moscow, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow with a reception to follow. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse at a later date.

Mrs. Holbrook died Monday, March 20, 2017.

Born May 24, 1916, at Little Pumpkin Creek, Mont., to Leonard C. and Rosina Lechner Larson, she moved with her family to Wyoming and then to Moscow in 1927. She graduated from Moscow High School in 1934 and attended the University of Idaho where she studied to become a teacher for two years.

She and Gordon Holbrook were married Dec. 1, 1935, in Moscow.

For the next 38 years they resided in Pullman, Bremerton, Moses Lake and Palouse where he worked in the building trade. In Joel, Idaho, they owned and operated a tavern and grocery store.

Mr. Holbrook died in 1973, and she settled in at the Robinson Mobile Home Park in Moscow.

She worked as a housekeeper at Gritman Hospital and then at WSU Housing Department. She retired from WSU in 1981. In retirement, Edna was a volunteer at the Gritman Medical Center gift shop as well as an active member and volunteer at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow.

An avid reader, she enjoyed playing cards and board games, tending her yard, music and dancing.

Surviving are her children, Larry Holbrook of Moscow; Kirby (Elva) Holbrook of Spirit Lake, Idaho; Rosanne (Bill) Manley of Moscow, and Robert "Butch” (Julie) Holbrook of Corbett, Ore .; her sister, Ella Fountain, Moscow; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
