Pyne rite set for mid March

Funeral services for Len Pyne, former Colfax High School basketball coach, will be at the Church of the Nazarene, 2402 S. Union Street, Kennewick, on March 15 at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served after the services.

Pyne coached basketball at Colfax for eight years starting with the 47-48 season. He rolled up a 159-78 record with the Bulldogs before departing in 1956 to coach baseball at Columbia Basin College. He also helped coach basketball teams and golf at CBC and served as athletic director.

Edward Barton

Edward Barton, 59, died at his LaCrosse home Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. His family will conduct a private gathering. Mr. Barton had been retired for the past three years for health reasons.

Born Oct. 9, 1957, in Spokane to Edward, Sr., and Betty L. Smith Barton, he lived in Everett and Trout Creek, Mont., until his father took a job with the railroad and the family moved to LaCrosse when he was 12 years old. He graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1975, moved to the Tri-Cities where he drove a taxi cab and then to Mattawa where he worked for the school district as a groundskeeper. He also worked in the area orchards. He moved back to LaCrosse 25 years ago and has been employed as a farm laborer both for LeRoy Rehman and more recently for Roger Carter. He loved animals, building campfires along the Snake River, looking for arrowheads, fishing and riding motorcycles.

Surviving are six siblings; Gene Barton of Centralia, Cindy Hazel of Winona, Gwen Badtram of Tri-Cities, Beverley Dodge of Hay, Maria Simon of Tri-Cities and Arlea Anderson of Post Falls, Idaho.

A. Lorraine Gilliland

A. Lorraine Dehle Gilliland, 83, longtime resident of Palouse, died Feb. 24, 2017, at the Memory Villas at Bishop Place in Pullman. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Palouse Federated Church with Pastor Corey Laughary officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Born Dec. 17, 1933, in Lake Creek, Idaho, to Clarence and Bertha (Wing) Dehle, she grew up in the Lake Creek area and attended school in Rockford and graduated from Rockford High School. She graduated from Kinman Business School in Spokane with a degree in accounting and worked as an accountant her whole career until retiring in the late 1980s from Dale Shoepflin’s Air Service.

She met Air Force Staff Sergeant Don Gilliland at a YWCA dance at Fairchild Air Force Base, and they were married in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, June 27, 1959. She and Don renewed their vows at the Palouse Federated Church on their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries.

After their marriage, they made their home in Spokane and eventually moved to Palouse in 1972. Declining health forced them to move to Bishop Place at Pullman in 2014.

Lorraine loved to read, sew and cook meals for family and friends. She and Don also hosted an exchange student from Switzerland, Andreas Wursch.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Don of Pullman; sons Roger (Lea) Gilliland of Tensed and Wes Gilliland of Seattle; daughter Shirley Gilliland of Spokane; a brother, Clifford Dehle of Kettle Falls; five grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Palouse Federated Church.

A graveside service for Ricky Lee Widman, 62, will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, March 2, at the Rosalia IOOF Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Widman died Jan. 27, 2017, at Spokane Hospice House South. He lived his last few years at Maplewood Gardens in Spokane.

Born March 2, 1954, in Spokane to Marvin and Emma Melby Widman, he grew up on the family farm west of Rosalia and farmed with his parents until they retired. Rick was a 1972 graduate of Rosalia High School, where he was involved with FFA, choir, letterman club, drama and was named prom king.

Surviving are his brother, Everett Widman, Spokane; a niece, Susan Terrill of Gilbert, Ariz; nephews Steven Clutter of Colfax, Bruce Widman (Julie) of Tekoa and Bret Widman (Janine) of West Sacramento, Calif.

Memorials can be made to the Rosalia United Methodist Church on the I.O.O.F. Evergreen Cemetery at P.O. Box 243 Rosalia, 99170.
