Vikings send 13 to regional track

Garfield/Palouse/ Oakesdale girls placed second in the SE district track meet last Wednesday with 102 points behind the heavy win posted by the Asotin girls who rolled up 207 points in the six-team meet at Martin Field in Walla Walla.

The Viking girls finished 20 points ahead of number-three Dayton.

Viking boys scored 33 points for a fifth-place finish behind the 191 power win posted by Waitsburg/Prescott.

GPO qualified 13 tracksters for the NE-SE regional meet Friday at Central Valley. The regional round offers state tickets for the top five finishers in the boys events and the top four in the girls events.

The CV meet will also include qualifications of 1B schools track competitors.

Anne Hockett topped the GP girls with wins in both hurdle events. She clocked a 17.72 in the 100 hurdles and a 50.41 in the 300 for a three-second edge over Meli Alvarado of DeSales.

Hockett placed second in the 200 meter run with a 1:03.29. She also placed second in the long jump at 15-11, three inches back of the top leap posted by Kaitlyn Andrews of Dayton.

Emma Perry won the high jump at 4-7, and Katie Holbrook paced second at 4-2

Zoe Robertson placed second in the 1600 with a 5:52.86 behind the strong win posted by Asotin senior Lucy Eggleson who finished at 5:33.978.

Robertson was fourth in the 3200 at 12:59, with Eggleston also leading that event at 11:38.98

The Vikings placed third in the 4 X 200 and the 4 X 400 relay races. Members of the 4 X 200 team were Shelby Dillon, Katie Holbrook, Perry and Robertson.

Members of the 4 X 400 team were Kaela Fisch, Katie Holbrook, Perry and Robertson.

Fisch also placed second in the discus with an 83-6 behind the 85-1 sling hit by Natalia Mauri of DeSales.

Emma Perry placed fourth in the 800 meters.

Fisch took fifth in the javelin at 69-7, and Holbrook placed sixth at 68-11.

Parker Perry had the lone win for the Viking boys with a 5-4 in the high jump, and Tanner Dingman placed third with a 5-2.

Dustin Warwick placed third in the 800 meter race with 2:11.19 behind the 2:02.6 win by Tanner Rooks of College Place.

The Viking 4 X 100 relay team placed third with a 50.42 with Dillon Meserve, Perry, Cameron Springstead and Warwick. Waistburg/Prescott ripped a 46.61 for a strong win.

Springstead placed fourth in the 200 sprint at 25.87.
