Wildcats softball sweep Vikings on Senior Night

COLTON - The Colton Wildcats softball team improved to 14-4 on the year with two wins against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings, 7-3, 13-1.

Both games were played on Saturday, April 27, where five Wildcat seniors were recognized.

The seniors were: Kyndra Stout, Kate Schultheis, Klara Andersson, Emily Jackson and Kaydee Heitstuman.

Once the first game began, the Wildcats took control, scoring six of their seven first-game runs in the third and fourth innings to take the opening game 7-3.

Kiya Soza pitched five-and-a-third innings for the Wildcats, allowing no runs on two hits and eight strikeouts.

Clare Moehrle pitched one-and-two-thirds innings. She allowed three runs, none earned, on one hit and four walks. She would strikeout one batter.

For the Vikings, Clare Bowechop pitched six innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on nine hits with a walk and strikeout each.

The Wildcats had nine hits on offense, led by two each from Soza and Mere Bell. Both would also have two RBIs in the game.

Heitstuman had one hit for an RBI and scored three runs.

Garfield-Palouse managed three total hits in the game, one each from Emma Orfe, Layla Inman and Ella Cuellar. Cuellar had both of the Vikings RBIs in the game.

The second game of the series saw Colton score five runs in the first inning, then four in the second inning to put the Vikings away early, taking the 13-1 victory.

The Vikings scored their lone run in the game in the third inning off an RBI double from Orfe.

Soza would pitch all five innings for the Wildcats in the game. She allowed just two hits for one earned run and walked one batter. She would strikeout another eight.

Reisse Johnson took the mound for four innings for the Vikings. She allowed 13 runs, four earned, on seven hits. Johnson would walk five batters and strikeout one.

Colton had seven hits in the game, led by three from Stout, she would finish with four RBIs, tied for game-leading with Rori Weber. She had four RBIs as well after a three-run home run.

The Wildcats also took on the Genesee Bulldogs on Friday, April 26, in Genesee. The Bulldogs would take down Colton for a second-straight game, winning 7-1.

Both the Wildcats and Vikings played each other on Tuesday, April 30, for their final regular season game. Results were not official at the time of press.
