Ronald Sande

Ronald Allen Sande, 58, died last Thursday morning, April 16, 2015, at his home in Rosalia from congestive heart failure. He resided in Rosalia for the past 10 years and was in failing health for the past several years.

In accordance with his request, his body will be cremated.

Born Oct. 10, 1956, at Mount Vernon, Wash., to Jim Fure and Joan Marie Sund, he grew up in western Washington and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked as a truck driver for several years after he graduated from high school. He later worked as a carpenter and operated an excavation business.

Previously married and divorced, he was currently living with a friend, Lisa Rasner.

Survivors include an uncle, cousins and nephews in western Washington.

Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is handling the local arrangements.

Helen Stilson

Helen Agnes Stilson, 90, died April 20, 2015, at the Veteran’s Home in The Dalles, Ore. A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday, April 27, at 11 a.m. in the Colfax Cemetery.

Born July 28, 1924. in Durand, Wis., to Ignatz and Julia (Kainz) Wittig, a family of dairy farmers, she grew up in Wisconsin and following high school entered the Army as World War II was still underway. She served in the WAC hospital company as a surgical technician. Later in life, Helen married Robert H. Stilson of Colfax Nov. 14, 1975. They made their home in Condon, Ore., for many years and traveled extensively from there. Many winters were spent in Arizona and summer trips were often to B.C. or Alaska for fishing.

Mr. Robert Stilson died in 1994 and Helen continued to make Condon her home.

She is survived by her children: Jan (Carol) Hayes of Noxon, Mont .; Tate Hayes of Yelm; Tammy Palm of Quartzsite, Ariz .; Delcy (Mike) Shelford of Burns Lake, B.C .; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several siblings in Wisconsin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Jubal.

Francis Lois Ely

Frances Lois Ely, 96, resident of Colfax since 2001, died April 14, 2015, at The Courtyard in Colfax. A private famiily service will be conducted at a later date.

Born May 31, 1918, to William and Margaret Hereth Tuengel in Snohomish, she was raised on a farm and met Everett C. Ely in 1940 when they were both working at Everett Pulp and Paper. They were married in 1941.

During World War II they lived in Cashmere where he was employed in a fruit packing company and as an accountant. They returned to Snohomish and owned and operated Ely Hardware in Snohomish for 30 years. After the close of the store she was a volunteer in the Small Business Adminstraton’s SCORE program. They also traveled extensively.

They moved to Portland in 1996, and Mr. Ely died in 1999. She moved here two years later to reside near her son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Ann Ely.

Also surviving are a daughter, Margo (Larry) Gerbrandt, San Juan Bautista, Calif .; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the United Methodist Church in Snohomish.
