Colton drops opening game

The defending state 1B softball champions began their season with a loss.

Splitting a doubleheader at Dayton, Colton took the second game to begin the year 1-1.

Garfield-Palouse also got underway this week, beginning with non-league losses to Asotin and Potlatch.

The Asotin High School softball team put together 50 runs in nine innings to take a doubleheader over the Vikings, 25-7 and 25-3.

The first game was called after four innings while the second lasted five, due to the mercy rule.

Gar-Pal was led in the first game by Lindsey Lindgren with a double and Lexi Rodriguez and Madi Shrope with singles.

In the second game, Rodriguez had two singles while Lindgren and Jaeden Askins added a base hit each.

Dayton 15, Colton 11

The Wildcats opened the year with a 15-11 loss at Dayton in the first game of a doubleheader.

Georgia Meyer led the Wildcats with two hits, including a home run, while Colton also got hits from Zoe Moser, Kendyll Druffel, MaryAnn Jacobs, Winnie Schultheis, Rachel Meyer and Emily Schultheis.

In the second game, a 3-2 Colton win, Winnie Schultheis pitched the entire way and hit a home run and two RBIs.

Potlatch 18, Garfield-Palouse 9

The Vikings lost a non-league contest to Potlatch March 19. Potlatch posted 18 hits in the game.

Lexi Rodriguez led Gar-Pal in the game with three hits including a double while Askins also had three. Brown, Shrope, Griner, Greenwalt and Arrasmith each got two hits.
