A graveside service for Michael L. Larson, 65, was held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Rock Creek Cemetery south of Potlatch with Potlatch VFW and an Army honor guard participating. Mr. Larson died last Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Spokane.

Born Jan. 11, 1949, at Nampa, Idaho, to Joseph and Georgia Rohr Larson, he attended the Potlatch schools and graduated from the Potlatch High School in 1967. He entered into the United States Army Jan. 21, 1969, and served in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart.

Michael started working for GTE Telephone Co. in Moscow and later was transferred to Coeur d’Alene. He worked for the company for 30 years and retired as a technical engineer in 2001.

He married Alice Gordon, and she died several years ago in an auto accident. He later married again and was later divorced.

He met Lyn LaPlante and they made their home at Hayden, Idaho.

Surviving are his companion, LaPlante, Hayden; one son, Chad Larson, Spokane; one daughter, he helped to raise, Tisha Taylor, Hayden; one brother, Jeff Larson, Grants Pass, Ore .; one sister, Christine (Bruce) Burton, Athol, Idaho, and three granddaughters.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Hospital for Children, 262 Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN, 38105.

A memorial service for Duane J. Sherwin, 83, was Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse with the Rev. Tom Dahl officiating. Mr. Sherwin died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at the Avalon Care Center in Pullman where he had resided since last April.

Born April 21, 1931, at Chapman, Kansas, to Fred and Edith Poor Sherwin, he attended schools at Chapman and married Kathy Bircher April 12, 1975, at Walla Walla, where they made their home. Mr. Sherwin worked for John Johnson Plumbing there until the couple moved to Moscow in 1982. He worked for the University of Idaho as a maintenance foreman until he retired in 1992. Mrs. Sherwin died in 2009.

In 2009, he moved to Garfield to live near his daughter and in 2011 he moved to Whitman Senior Living in Pullman and then to the Avalon Care Center.

He was a member of the AARP and former member of the Lions Club for 40 years.

Survivors include one son, Robert Bishop (Anna) Potlatch; three daughters, Danielle Engelhardt (Richard) Garfield; Shirley Long (Jerry), Bozeman, Mont., Cindy Fournier, Baltimore, Md .; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
