Naom G. Barr

Naom G. Barr, 97, former resident of Palouse, died last Monday, April 7, 2014, at Pullman Regional Hospital. In accordance with her request, services were not conducted.

Born on April 7, 1917, at St. Paul, Minn., to Harry and Selma (Carlso) Glassco, she attended schools in Minnesota and married Raymond Barr Dec. 28, 1938, at Bemidji, Minn. They moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1942 and lived in Orofino, Coeur d’Alene and Port Orchard. Naom worked as a cook in an elementary school in Manchester. Mr. Barr worked at the Naval shipyards at Bremerton. In 1947, they moved to Palouse, and she worked in food service at Washington State University as a cook in Davis Wilmer Hall from 1971 to 1980 when she retired. Mr. Barr worked in construction in the Moscow-Pullman area. He died in 1982.

She was a member of the Moscow Road Runners and Palouse Senior Citizens. She enjoyed traveling, her flower garden and painting. Survivors include two sons, Doug Barr (Paula), Spokane, and James Barr (Jeannie) Palouse; one daughter, Virginia Deerkop (Loren) Killeen, Texas; four grandchildren, and five great-grandsons. Memorials may be given to the Palouse EMS at the Palouse branch of AmericanWest Bank.

Gust A. Bostrom

Funeral services for Gust A. Bostrom, 89, will be today, Thursday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at the Freeze Church north of Potlatch with the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at the Freeze Cemetery. Mr. Bostrom died Sunday morning, April 13, 2014, at the Aspen Park Healthcare in Moscow.

Born Aug. 25, 1924, at Ogema, Minn., to Elder and Sarah Pederson Bostrom, he attended the Bangs Brook Country School at Ogema Township. After his schooling he worked on the family dairy farm.

He married Doris Horn Oct. 11, 1946 at Duluth, Minn., and the couple made their home at Ogema. They moved to Sandy, Ore ,. where he logged. The couple was called back to the family farm in Minnesota due to his father’s ill health.

In 1955 the family moved to Potlatch, and he was employed by Potlatch Forest’s Inc. as a lumber grader. He then worked at Washington State University as a custodian for a few years. In 1973, he was employed by Bennett Lumber Products as a lumber grader until he retired in 1986. Mrs. Bostrom died in 1997, and he has continued to make his home north of Potlatch.

Gust enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball at Potlatch.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Bostrom (Dianna) Desmet, Idaho;, and Richard Bostrom (Jeanie) Potlatch; one daughter, Carol Berreth (Wayne) Tensed, Idaho, and one granddaughter.

Michael D. Prine

Michael D. Prine, 68, of Endicott, died April 9, 2014, at his Endicott home. The memorial service will be Friday, April 18, 2014, at Bruning Funeral Home at 1 p.m.

Born March 23, 1946, in Colfax, he grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School.

He enlisted in the US Navy and served three tours during the Vietnam war as a chief mechanic and a chief drone controller. Following his honorable discharge Michael returned to the Northwest and lived in Spokane for a time, later returning to Lewiston.

He met Cheryl Tierney and they later moved to Endicott. Michael worked in automotive restoration for years and won first-place awards in shows from California to Washington. He had an extensive knowledge of mineralogy and enjoyed music and whistling.
