Laurent Boulanger

Laurent Francois Joseph Boulanger, 69, resident of the Tekoa Care Center for the past seven years, died Sunday April 8, 2012, from heart failure in Tekoa. His remains will be cremated and a local service will not be conducted in accordance with his request.

Born June 30, 1942, at Rumford, Maine, to Louis and Leah Marie (Grimard) Boulanger, he attended St. John Catholic School in Rumford and worked a few years as a butcher. He later moved to Meredith, New Hampshire, where he worked as a bearing machinist at Lewis & Saunders Ball Bearing Co. He later relocated to the Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, area where he continued to work as a machinist. In 1995 he suffered a heart attack and became disabled. In 2002, he relocated to Seattle and moved to the Tekoa Care Center in Tekoa in 2004.

Mr. Boulanger loved to hunt, fish, camp and also enjoyed snowmobiling.

Survivors include his seven children Lisa Boulanger of New Hampton, N.H .; Laurent Boulanger Jr. of Denton, Texas; Linda Seaman of Spokane Valley; Leanne Reruink of Madison, S. D .; Stephen Boulanger of Dover, Delaware; Jennifer Monty of New Hampton, N.H., and Heather Boulanger of New Hampton, N.H .; three brothers, Edward (Susan Grant) Boulanger of Claremont, N. C .; Jacques Boulanger of Rumford, Maine, and Dennis (Lucienne ‘Cookie’) Boulanger of Meredith, N.H .; sisters Jeannine Hall of Rumford, Denise (Clayton) Libby of Dixsfield, Maine; 20 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Lucille Christopher

A graveside service for Lucille M. Christopher, 91, Endicott, will be at the Colfax Cemetery next Tuesday, April 17, at 1 p.m. with Lynn Nelson officiating. She died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax. Viewing will be at Bruning Funeral Home Monday.

Born March 12, 1921, in Endicott to Adam V. and Mary Gerlitz Morasch, she grew up on the family farm near Endicott along with 11 other brothers and sisters. She graduated from Endicott High School in 1940 and married John J. Getz Jan. 31, 1943. They farmed just outside of Colfax and Lucille kept busy as a homemaker and mother to their two sons. Mr. Getz died April 18, 1959, and she kept the farm until the lease was up. Then she moved into Colfax.

She married John Albert Christopher Oct. 23, 1967, in Colfax. They lived in La Grande, Ore., Othello, and Cupertino, Calif. before retiring to Walla Walla in 1979. Lucille liked to fish and she was always involved in their farming and cattle operations. In later years she loved to paint, especially water-colors. She was active in the Lutheran church throughout her lifetime and she was a member of the Elks Lodge and a charter member of the Colfax Eagles Auxiliary.

Surviving are her two sons, Ray (Carol) Getz, Othello; and Ken Getz of Coulee City, two sisters, Ruth Bafus of Colfax and Alice Stover of Endicott; a brother, Floyd Morasch of St. John; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Kirk McCall

A funeral service for Kirk McCall, 87, retired Winona area rancher, was Wednesday, April 11, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Winona Cemetery. Mr. McCall died last Thursday, April 5, 2012, at The Henderson House adult family home in Colfax.

Born Oct. 16, 1924, at Lamont, to Kirk C. and Nora Parks McCall, he moved with his family to Winona and grew up helping his parents on the ranch.

He graduated from Winona High School and worked for a few years for farmers in the Endicott area.

He married his high-school sweetheart, Janet Shawgo, in Lewiston April 26, 1946.

They lived in Endicott for a couple of years while Kirk operated a service station there.

In 1948 they settled on their ranch three miles north of Winona on the Palouse River.

They raised cattle and hogs and also grew wheat, barley and hay.

They raised their family of three boys and a girl on the ranch and both were active in their children’s activities such as 4H, FFA and school sporting events.

He also belonged to the LaCrosse Methodist Church, the Inland Empire Angus Association as well as the American Angus Association and the National Farmers Organization.

Kirk was a long-time member of the Winona Cemetery Board and had served as its secretary for many years.

He also liked to hunt, especially for birds.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Janet, Colfax; three sons; Brian, Reardan; Rodney, Winona, and Neal, Ewan; a daughter, Evelyn McCall-Sterett, Davenport; his sister, Velda Sheer, Colfax, and three grandchildren.

Evelyn Hodson McLain

Evelyn Hodson McLain, 87, a resident of Palouse, died Friday evening, April 6, 2012, at the Pullman Regional Hospital. In accordance with her request, a public service will not be conducted. She has been cremated and a family gathering will be at a later date.

Born Nov. 10, 1924, at Palouse, to Edward and Rosa Fryer McKenzie, she moved with her family as an infant to the Bertha Ringo farm on McKenzie Road which her father had purchased. She attended the Angel Country School and later the Palouse Schools. She was a member of the Palouse High School class of 1942.

She moved to Spokane and was employed at Montgomery Ward’s as a supervisor in the shipping department. She moved back to Palouse in 1947 and married Pat Hodson in 1949. They made their home at Palouse. The couple later divorced.

She married Jess McLain in 1973 at St. Maries, Idaho, and they resided at Palouse. Mr. McLain died in 1998.

Evelyn later moved to Genesee where she and Pat Hodson reunited together for five years until his death in 2004. Following his death, Evelyn moved back to Palouse to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was a member of the Palouse Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Potlatch V.F.W. Legion Auxiliary and the Palouse Grange. She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, embroidery and sewing. She loved to cook and visit the family farm looking for wildlife. Family gatherings were important to her right up to the end of her life.

Survivors include, three daughters, Diana (Dick) Bridge, Garfield; Ruth (Al) Bruns, Palouse, and, Patty Rippee, Palouse; twin sons, Joe (Barb) Hodson and Jerry (Helen) Hodson, both of Palouse; 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Palouse EMS at Palouse.

Danial E. Starrett

A memorial service for Danial E. Starrett, 43, Endicott, will be Saturday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at Bruning Funeral home in Colfax. Mr. Starrett died unexpectedly last Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax.

Born June 20, 1968, to Elmer and Joan Shaw Starrett, he was one of the last graduates of Endicott High School before it merged with St. John. He moved to Spokane and worked for Travis Refinery and then returned to Endicott where he worked for farmers and did odd jobs. He enjoyed collecting various items and working on cars.

Surviving are four brothers, Roger Starrett, Longview; Randy Starrett, Spokane; Rob Starrett, Colfax, and Charlie Starrett, Spokane; one sister, Leslie Starrett, Endicott, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials go the Endicott EMT fund.
