A memorial service for Lila Jean Hendrickson, 83, former long-time resident of Colfax, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb., 12, 2012, at the Community Bible Church in Colfax. She died Feb. 1, 2012, in East Wenatchee where she has resided since the fall of 2006. A graveside service will be at the Denver Cemetery in Grangeville, Idaho, this spring.

Born Oct. 22, 1928, in Cottonwood, Idaho, to Oliver and Lillie Von Bargen Jones, she graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1946. She and Don Hendrickson were married Nov. 24, 1946, shortly after he was discharged from the Navy.

They movcd several times during the first years of their marriage and then settled in Colfax in 1962 when he started working for the McGregor Co. After their last child entered school, Lila began working as a dietary aide at St. Ignatius and, later, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center. She retired as food service manager.

In addition to spending time with her family and grandchildren, she also enjoyed gardening, baking, crocheting, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and camping.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Surviving are five daughters Sandy (Greg) Gilbert of Pomeroy, Kathy (Jack) Hughes of Normandy Park, Chris (Greg) Boehm of Anacortes, Donna (Chet) Cocktrill of East Wenatchee, and Karen Hall of Colfax; one son Richard (Colleen) of East Wenatchee; a sister Patricia Cox; a brother Robert Suhr; 19 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorial donations go MS, Hospice, Medstar, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Michele Hertz

A memorial service for Michele Juanita (Deaton) Hertz, 41, Garfield, will be Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Garfield. She died Jan. 24, 2012, following complications from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Born May 4, 1970, in Yakima, to Michael Deaton and Gwen Brooking, she spent her childhood living in Yakima and graduated from Naches Valley High School in Naches in 1988. Michele graduated from Providence Medical Center for Phlebotomy in 1994 and then worked for the Red Cross and Alpha Plasma Center. In 1999 she moved to the Whitman County area and made her home in Palouse and Garfield. She married Daniel Hertz March 19, 2000, at the Palouse Federated Church.

She enjoyed all sports, especially mixed martial arts, Nascar and basketball. She also enjoyed many types of music, loved to sing and had an amazing voice. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially fishing.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel, her mother and step-father, Gwen and Jon Hill, and her father, Mike Deaton. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Michael.

A benefit dinner and silent auction will be Feb. 11 from 5: to 8 p.m. at Grumpy’s Tavern in Garfield.
