David A. Baldwin,

David A. Baldwin, 69, a resident of Colfax and formerly of Potlatch, died early Friday morning Nov. 18, 2011, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. A memorial service/potluck reception will be Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Community Bible Church in Colfax. A US Army honor guard will conduct military honors.

David grew up in a family of 12 children. He was an avid hunter and fisherman until his health slowed him down.

He married Kathy Newby on Nov. 23, 1963, at Grangeville, Idaho, and the couple made their home at Grangeville where he worked as a saw filer for local sawmills. They also lived in many places including Elk City, Idaho; Superior, Mont .; St. Anthony, Idaho, and Salmon, Idaho. They moved to Potlatch in 1980 where they raised their family.

They have four children: Helen Miriam Baldwin, Margeret Ellen Horn, Tonya Denise DeYoung, and Ronda Sue Backlin; 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nine siblings.

Aileen Henley

Aileen Henley, 89, long-time Hay resident, died last Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the LaCrosse Methodist Church. She will be buried at the Hay Cemetery.

Born July 9, 1922, in Monroe to Adolph and Ila McIntyre Stebler, she grew up in Seattle and graduated from Highline High School in 1939. She met John Henley, Jr., through a cousin at her church and they were later married in Seattle Dec. 4, 1944. They lived in Seattle for a short time where he worked for the Boeing Co. and then moved to Hay, where John was raised, in the spring of 1945 and took over the Henley farming operation. They lived on a ranch west of Hay.

Aileen kept busy as a homemaker and mother to their three children. She was also a member of the Hay Baptist Church, the Friends and Neighbors Club, Hay Ladies Aid and LaCrosse Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling on a league in Pomeroy and liked doing embroidery. She was an avid gardener and especially loved her roses and taking care of her yard. Aileen loved to take long walks down the canyon on their ranch.

Mr. Henley, a former Whitman County commissioner, died in 2004.

Surviving are a daughter Jeannine Larkin, Hay; two sons Randy Henley, Coeur d’Alene, and Gary Henley, Puyallup; two sisters, Lydia Johnson of Athol, Idahol, and Duwania MacKinnon of Sequim; 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
