Edna Taylor Fry

The funeral for Edna M. Fry, 97, Colfax native who made her home in Deer Park, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax with a graveside service following at the Colfax Cemetery. Mrs. Fry died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax.

Born May 29, 1914, in Colfax to David and Anna McNeilly Taylor, she grew up outside of Colfax and while a student at Colfax High School she boarded and worked for the Bruning family until she graduated.

She married Miles C. Fry Nov. 15, 1935, in Moscow. They made Colfax their home until moving to Kellogg, Idaho, where he worked for the railroad and Bunker Hill. They returned to Colfax and resided here until 1962 when they moved to Spokane. Mr. Fry died in 1964, and she continued to live in Spokane where she worked in nursing homes as a housekeeper until she retired at age 70 and moved to Deer Park where she has resided since.

Surviving are a daughter Claudia Anderson, Deer Park; a son, Daryl Fry, Colfax; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathleen, two sons, David and Michael Fry, six siblings and one grandson.

Mildred M. Synold

A graveside service for Mildred M. Synold, 79, was Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa.

Mrs. Synold died Friday morning, Oct. 7, 2011, at her home north of Potlatch.

Born March 17, 1932 near Mission, S. D., to Ray and Helen Stull Kibbee, she moved to this area with her family when she was four and attended grade schools in Latah and Tekoa and high school in Plummer. She married Donald J. Synold Feb. 4, 1949, at Coeur d’Alene, and they farmed in the Tensed, Idaho, area. She also owned and operated Clem’s Store in Tensed from 1963 through 1993 when the couple retired and moved to Post Falls. Mr. Synold died in March of 1994.

In 2003, Mildred returned to Tensed and operated the store until 2007 when she moved to rural Potlatch to live near her daughter, Nancy Largent.

She was a member of the Tensed Senior Citizens, the Tensed Grange, the Gritman Hospital Auxiliary and the Potlatch Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, playing cards and having coffee with her friends and family.

Survivors include three daughters; Nancy (Terry) Largent. Potlatch ,; Emily Synold, Spokane; Connie (Don) Hemmer, Liberty Lake, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Synold.

Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
