Dale Edward Stover

A graveside service for Dale Edward Stover, 84, retired Endicott farmer, will be Friday, Nov. 19, at the Colfax Cemetery at 11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott with Pastor Philip Misner officiating.

Mr. Stover died Nov. 13, 2010, at Whitman Hospital in Colfax.

Born April 12, 1926, at Ephrata, to Fred J. and Elthea Wheeler Stover, he moved with his family to the Wilcox area in 1930 and attended the Wilcox country school, Hamilton Grade School in Colfax. He moved with his parents in 1941 to Endicott where he graduated with the Endicott High School class of 1944.

He met the love of his life, Alice Jean Morasch, on the school bus in 1941 and they were married Sept. 26, 1948. He worked in the fertilizer business for 22 years. In the fall of 1969 they moved back to the farm where they lived and worked until his last harvest in 2007 at the age of 81. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and working in his shop. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilcox Grange and the Dusty Co-op.

Surviving are his wife, Alice, at their Endicott home; his son, Fred (Cindy) Stover of Spokane; daughter Diane (Mike) Repp of Auburn, and his son-in-law, Matthew L. Rutt of Richland; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Rutt.

Richard Murray

The funeral service for Richard (Mike) Terry Bruce Murray, 79, Pullman, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Pullman Presbyterian Church. Vault interment will follow at Pullman’s IOOF Cemetery. Mr. Murray died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Pullman Regional Hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1930, to Dr. John and Nora Murray in Colfax. As a child Mike was a member of 4H and the Young Americans, a group that supported the war effort in World War II. He joined the US Army in the early 1950s and served in Korea and Okinawa. He was awarded the Army Occupation Metal, Korean Service Medal, United National Service Metal and the Bronze Star. After returning from his military service Mike met and married Carol Joyce Scott June 6, 1953. He worked at Washington State University for most of his life and retired in 1988.

Mike is survived by his three children, Michael (Michelle) of Sauk Rapids Minn .; Mark (Dawn) of Ogden, Utah, and Mindy (Anthony) Jaques of Odessa; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Carol.

Emmett Shawgo

A celebration of life for Emmett Wayne Shawgo, 91, was Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Methodist Church in St. John. Pastor Dave McCue officiated. A community potluck followed at the former Grange Hall in Ewan. A brief family internment service at Spokane Memorial Gardens preceded the service.

He died Nov. 10, 2010.

Born on the family farm near Rock Lake Dec. 12, 1918, to Elmer and Ida May Evans Shawgo, he attended Columbia School for four years, riding a horse that pulled a small buggy carrying his oldest sister, Marscelene. He began attending school in Ewan in the fifth grade, and graduated from there in 1937. He earned his Eagle Scout Badge. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, tennis and acting in school plays. He was also a very talented musician and played in the Ewan All School Orchestra.

Emmett sewed wheat sacks in high school and learned to farm the family land. He attended Los Angeles Diesel School in 1938. However, he was summoned back home before graduating because he was needed to milk 23 cows and tend to the farming. He soon met his future wife, Lorraine Dirks of Lamont, often serenading her with his accordion before she agreed to marry him. They were married at the Hitching Post in Coeur d’Alene, Sept. 7, 1946.

Emmett was a pilot and member of the Flying Farmers of America. He also enjoyed motorcycles. He was heavily involved in mining, a passionate pastime for him, at one time serving as president of Midnite Mines. He was involved in the community, serving as school board president in Ewan, a member of Eaton Grange, Washington State Grange, National Grange and the Edsel Club. Fishing was a favorite pastime. He never missed his children’s extracurricular activities and was a very giving person. He never met a stranger.

Surviving are his wife, Lorraine, at the family home, children; Wayne (Renee) of Newport; Arlene (Tim) Stromberger of Davenport, and Roger (Jeanine) of Newport; a brother Hugh,Washtucna; a sister Ethelda Todd, Spirit Lake; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Hospice of Spokane, or Cancer Care Northwest.

Mildred Lautensleger

The funeral for Mildred Louise Lautensleger, 94, was Monday, Nov. 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial at the Endicott Cemetery. She died in Vancouver, Wash., Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010.

Born to Karl and Mary Litzenberger Scheuerman April 4, 1916, at the family farm near Endicott, she graduated from Endicott High School in 1934 and the following year married Leo Lautensleger whose family farmed nearby. They first lived in Endicott and then moved to Brewster, in the 1930s.

They raised three children, Dorothy, Mary, and Richard in Brewster where Mildred worked in apple packing warehouses for four decades first as a line packer and later as a supervisor. Millie served as organist for Lutheran churches in Okanogan, Bridgeport, and Brewster. Following her retirement in the 1980s she was a caregiver to several community elders. The Lautenslegers resided in Brewster until 1995 when they relocated to Vancouver to live near their children. Mr. Lautensleger died in 1996. Millie was an avid walker, worked cross-word puzzles, and enjoyed a wide circle of family and friends from the Brewster and Endicott areas with whom she kept in regular contact.

Surviving are daughters Dorothy Riggan and Mary Coblitz, son Richard Lautensleger, all of Vancouver, five grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be designated for the St. John-Endicott Schools Reich-Scheuerman Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society.

G. Willene Nelson

G. Willene Nelson, 93, Tekoa, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at the Tekoa Care Center. Her funeral service will be Monday, Nov. 22, at the Tekoa Community Church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery.

Jean B. Miller

Jean B. Miller, 97, died Nov. 16, 2010. She has lived in the Belmont community for the past six years with her son, Robert Miller. Funeral arrangements are pending with Kramer Funeral Home, Tekoa.
