Colfax girls get ready to host Reardan for Bi-County lead

Shaina Simonson, Brittney Burke and Kayla Johnson surround NWC's Bryanna Bailey Friday night while the ball heads for the baseline in the Colfax gym. The Bulldog girls stacked up big wins in all three of their games last week.

“We’re going to get after it,” Coach Corey Baerlocher vowed Tuesday in advance to the league showdown with Reardan Friday night. Colfax, which sustained a 53-42 loss at Reardan in the first round, will attempt to even the score in their last home game Friday.

The two clubs go into the round with one loss each in the Bi-County. Reardan was nipped by Lind/Ritzville. Both teams and remained undefeated for the balance of the league run.

Baerlocher noted the number-one tactic for Colfax Friday will be to keep down the turnovers. They committed 44 in that first-round loss when Reardan cranked up their defense to ambushed the Bulldogs.

Tuesday night, Colfax remained on the collision trail with a 63-51 win over the Liberty Lancers. One big stat against the Lancers was just 16 turnovers, the first time in the league run the Bulldogs have kept the number under 20, Baerlocher noted.

Rachel Johnson booked her season’s best with 21 points. Coach Baerlocher noted Rachel hit 10 of 12 from the field and booked five assists from her point position.

Kayla Johnson hit half of the Colfax points in the first quarter and finished with four steals and 13 boards.

Kelly Hennessey led the Lancers, also with 21.

Colfax went to Spangle after booking two big wins on the home court over the weekend. They started with a 53-31 crunch over Northwest Christian in a league match Friday night and followed that up with a 48-40 over a tough ACH Warrior team in a non-leaguer Saturday.

Friday, Colfax posted a 30-14 lead over the Crusaders in the first half. Kayla Johnson led the scoring with 20 and Shaina Simonson pulled down 13 rebounds.

Saturday, ACH jumped Colfax for an 11-4 lead in the first quarter, but couldn’t keep the pace. The Bulldogs figured out an attack for the Warriors 2-3 zone defense in the second quarter and led by a point, 22-21 at the break.
