    COLFAX — Families needing help with Christmas presents for children can register with the Colfax Fire Department for presents. For more than 30 years the fire department gathers toy donations and helps distribute them to children for Christmas.     COLFAX - Four veterans received appreciation for their service in the form of handmade quilts. The Quilts of Valor were given to them at the Colfax Methodist Church on Nov. 10, according to Diana King. Tom Carmody, Al Nave, Tony Roberts, and Tom Schlueter appeared to enjoy the quilts and the appreciation for their service. Carmody, 83, and his wife, Anita, live in Colfax.     SPOKANE — The American Red Cross is providing $750,000 to help Malden and Pine Creek area restoration efforts. The 2020 Labor Day wildfires scorched thousands of acres, destroying homes, in Whitman and Okanogan counties. The American Red Cross donated $1.2 million in recovery grants to support community-based recovery efforts focused on meeting the needs of individuals impacted by the wildfires.     COLFAX — A lighted parade and fireworks show are added to Winterfest 2021.     COLFAX — Numerous city and town council members were elected in November and the results were finalized Nov. 23. PORT OF WHITMAN COUNTY The elected commissioners are Karl Webber 98.09% of the votes, and Tom Kammerzell 96.71%. They ran unopposed.     COLFAX — All of the propositions to increase property taxes and a county sales tax increase were approved by voters. Whitman County had a high turnout of voters in November with nearly 43% casting ballots. The election was certified as final on Nov. 23.
