The Palouse Empire Fair is set for Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 8-11, and local agriculture will be on full display at the fairgrounds west of Colfax.   • Palouse to shut off water main Sept. 6

    PALOUSE— The water main that serves the Northeast section of the north hill, Breeding’s Addition, and Fisher’s Addition in Palouse will be shut off starting Tues. Sept. 6, at approximately 8 a.m. This will last about 6 to 10 hours. The City of Palouse asks citizens to have enough water to supply during this period and to turn the water off if the house is left unattended after the water is turned off.     ST. JOHN – Two area men were remembered following the Saturday, Aug. 26, sprint boat races at Webb's Slough. The ashes of Richie Baltierra of St. John were spread on the waters after the racing.     COLFAX – A late summer heat wave was expected to hit much of Eastern Washington, including Whitman County, on Wednesday. In advance of the heat wave, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory that was to remain in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday.
