    Colfax baseball season will launch with a lot of players back from last year’s championship season and a new head coach on the sidelines. The new coach isn’t exactly a stranger: Scotty Parrish, who was an assistant to his dad, Coach Mike Parrish, for nine years, has moved up to the top spot. Scotty Parrish served as an assistant coach in two stints for a total of nine years at Colfax going back to the 2007 season.     A horse which was being towed in a trailer on Highway 195 near the state line south of Uniontown sustained minor leg injuries in an accident early March 2 . The driver of the 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck was not injured. According to the report by Trooper Rob Aucutt, Barbara Davis, Clarkston, was driving the pickup northbound at 10:45 a.m. in snowing conditions and lost control when the truck hit a snow drift.     Whitman County commissioners approved a bid March 5 for 1,305 total tons of two types of liquid asphalt from Idaho Asphalt at Hauser, Idaho. Idaho Asphalt bid $641,100 while Western States Asphalt of Spokane Valley bid $672,130. The bid included $4,458 in hazardous materials tax. One type of the asphalt is used for chip-sealing existing roads while another is used for “penetration shots” of gravel and oil....

    A 2015/16 crash analysis of US 195 found 65 percent of fatal crashes were caused by distracted, drowsy and young (age 16-25) drivers.     Jeannette Solimine welcomes seniors to the new weekly lunch site at the Colfax pantry. A full house showed up for the inaugural meal at the Council on Aging’s new home for its senior meals March 7 at the Colfax Food Pantry in the former Elk’s Lodge.     Whitman County commissioners March 5 approved surplus items to sell from the Public Works department. Items include two 2006 Ford 6L diesel trucks with mechanical trouble, three sport-utility vehicles which are former sheriff’s cars and a 1991 Mack dump truck.     Whitman County Road Department has switched its schedule back to four 10-hour days per week as of Monday. After working 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. five days a week since November, they returned to a 6:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. schedule for the spring and summer.
