Wildcat softball handles Timberwolves, Bulldogs

COLTON — The Colton Wildcats entered the week as the number eight ranked softball team for 1B rankings, and will see that number rise as they defeated the No. 4-ranked Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves, 28-10 then 15-1, in a double-header.

The clash was played on Friday, April 12, in Tekoa.

The first game saw Colton score seven runs in the first inning, five in both the third and fourth innings, then 10 in the fifth inning to secure the 18-run victory.

Colton had 24 total hits in the game compared to four from Tekoa-Rosalia.

Clair Moehrle pitched all five innings for Colton in game one. She allowed 10 runs, five of which were earned, on four hits and 10 walks. She would also strike-out four batters.

For the Timberwolves, Libby Lehn pitched all five innings. She allowed 28 runs, 10 of which were earned, on 24 hits and six walks.

Of the 24 hits for Colton, Rori Weber and Mere Bell each had four, Moehrle, Kiya Soza, Kyndra Stout, Kate Schultheis and Leah Musson each had three.

Weber, Moehrle and Musson each had four RBIs in the game, followed by three from Bell.

The Timberwolves had four total hits in the game. Meagan Maley led the way with two, followed by one each from Lehn and McKinley Chase. Chase would have two RBIs to lead Tekoa-Rosalia.

During the second game of the double-header, the Wildcats would hold the Timberwolves to just two hits as Colton had 14 hits for 15 runs to win the game 15-1, sweeping Tekoa-Rosalia.

This game was pitched by Soza for the Wildcats. She pitched all five innings, allowing one run on two hits with six walks. She would strikeout 10 batters in the game.

Clare Wilkins pitched all five innings for the Timberwolves. She allowed 15 runs, six of which were earned, on 14 hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Weber led the way for Colton with three hits in the game, she finished with one RBI. Stout had two hits for two RBIs, including a home run, and Soza had two hits for three RBIs.

Lehn and Deleni Chase had the two hits for the Timberwolves in the game. Ashoan Butcher picked up the lone Timberwolf RBI, scored by Abagale McGuire.

After the game against the Timberwolves, Colton took on the Dayton Bulldogs. Colton attacked Dayton early and often, taking down the Bulldogs 16-2.

The game was played on Monday, April 15, in Colton.

Soza would pitch all five innings for Colton, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

Colton scored their 16 runs on just five hits, led by two from Soza, and one each from Bell, Stout, and Ella Nollmeyer. Bell and Nollmeyer led the way with two RBIs each.

Colton was walked 12 times in the game, leading to easy runs.

The next game for Colton will be played against the Pullman Greyhounds. The game will be played on Thursday, April 18, in Colton, set to start at 2 p.m.

The Timberwolves will play their next game on Thursday, April 18, against Pomeroy. The game will be in Tekoa, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Colton are currently ranked third overall, with Tekoa at nine.
