Colfax Bulldogs softball split spring break series

Defeated Warden by one run due to walk off error

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs softball team defeated Warden 13-12, then lost to Kittitas 12-8 in a softball series Wednesday, April 3, in Colfax.

On an offensive day where the Bulldogs produced two total runs through four innings, Colfax had enough in the tank to score 11 runs in the final three innings, including eight in the bottom of the fifth, and the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Warden.

Kirsten Akesson pitched a total of six-and-two-thirds innings for Colfax. She allowed eight runs on 13 hits with a walk and strikeout.

Gracie Bofto came in to replace Akesson in the fifth inning. She struck out one batter, then walked five for four runs on no hits before being replace by Akesson, who finished the game.

Colfax were led by Keilena Nelson, Brenna Gilchrist, Akesson, and Harley Hennigar, with two hits each.

Hennigar led the way with three RBIs, followed by Akesson, Nelson, and Bofto with two each.

The Bulldogs trailed Warden 7-1 in the fourth inning before scoring one run to cut the lead to five.

In the top of the fifth, Warden scored four runs to lead 11-2, before Colfax exploded with an eight-run outburst, most of which came with two outs.

Trailing 11-10, Colfax scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 12-11 lead heading into the final inning.

After a Warden runner stole second, the next batter sent her home with a base-hit, tying the game at 12.

With Colfax up to bat, Isabella Huntley reached first with a walk. After the walk, Huntley stole second base, then advanced to third with the throwing error from the catcher. The throw to third base then sailed past the Warden defender, allowing Huntley to run home, scoring the game-winning run for Colfax, taking the 13-12 victory.

Following the game was a match up with Colfax taking on the Kittitas Coyotes.

Both teams scored two runs each in the first inning, however, Colfax would not score again until the bottom of the fifth inning, whereas Kittitas scored in every succeeding inning besides the fifth to take the 12-8 victory over Colfax.

Akesson pitched all seven innings for Colfax. She allowed all 12 runs on 12 hits with two walks. She would strike out six batters on the day.

Colfax totaled 10 hits in the game, with Hennigar leading the way with three hits in four at-bats for two RBIs.
