More than 2,100 wrestlers vie for titles

SPOKANE - Two Tekoa Timberwolves wrestlers finished in the Top 4 at the Jason Crawford Memorial Tournament on Saturday, March 30.
More than 2,100 wrestlers competed in the tournament, including 13 Timberwolves. The tournament is considered as the "state" competition for Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
Wrestling in the ages 9/10 division, Tyler Schmelter was fourth in the boys 114-118 weight class and Noraya Himes was fourth in girls 141-149 pounds.
Schmelter opened by pinning Caleb Hayes of the Selah Storm in 29 seconds, before losing by pin to Dylan Reyes of Savage Wrestling in 1:00. In the wrestlebacks, he pinned Jed McCann of Inland Northwest in 2:56 and them lost by pin to Weston Lascik of Mount Spokane in 1:56 to finish fourth.
Himes lost her opening match to Dallas Mercado f the Tri-Cities Mat Rattlers, 6-2, and then was pinned by Ayiia Blackburn of Warden Elite in 41 seconds. In her final match, Himes was pinned by Jahkaylee Prado of Granger Pit Pups Wrestling in 38 seconds to finish fourth.
Several other Timberwolves competed, but did not place.
Wrestlers winning at least one match include:
· Killian Sailors, boys 5/6 division at 60-61 pounds.
· Able Lewis, boys 9/10 division at 60-61 pounds.
· Alexander Arnold, boys 9/10 division, 74-77 pounds.
Other Timberwolves wrestling in the boys division were Maverick Collison, Toby Schmelter, Cayden Fizzell, Kole Johnson, Degan Himes and Brennon Polley.
In the girls division, Noraya Himes was joined by Timberwolves teammates Novah Robbins and Adalyn Carren.
