Colton softball slide into impressive 5-1 start

Swept Pomeroy in two games, scoring 36 total runs

COLTON - The Colton Wildcats softball team combined for five total home runs in their two games against league opponent Pomeroy Pirates in their games played on Friday, March 29.

Both games were played in Colton, with the Wildcats winning the first game 16-2, and the second 20-3.

Four of the five home runs on the day came in the opening game, where Colton earned the 16-2 victory in five innings.

Kate Schultheis pitched the complete five innings for Colton, allowing the two runs on three hits with four walks. She also struck out six batters in the game.

Kiya Soza hit two home runs in the game, scoring four runners for Colton.

The Wildcats scored in all four innings they batted, including a six-run fourth inning.

Meredith Bell and Kyndra Stout also hit home runs in the game, with two of the home runs coming in back-to-back batters.

Kaydee Heitstuman finished with three hits for four RBIs on the day, and Bell finished with two RBIs on one hit. Stout also had three hits for an RBI in the game.

Following the first game was another complete game for Soza. She pitched all four innings for Colton, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks. Soza would strike out seven batters in the game as well.

Stout hit her second home run in two games, this time with a grand slam in the first inning, scoring four runs to help the Colton charge.

A nine-run fourth inning led to the 20-3 victory for Colton.

Stout finished with five hits on five at-bats with seven RBIs.

Both Bell and Schultheis had three RBIs in the game as well. Schultheis had three hits, and Bell had two.

Colton finished with 14 hits in the game with two fielding errors.

The next game for Colton will be Tuesday, April 9, when they travel to Pomeroy for another match up with the Pirates. The game in Pomeroy will start at 4 p.m.
