Bulldog volleyball go 2-1 over week, down Greyhounds in game of year so far

Defeated Liberty, then lost to LRS, beat Pullman on the weekend

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs volleyball team finished off an impressive 2-1 week, including a defeat against the Pullman Greyhounds, who finished fourth in state last season in the 2A rankings. The Bulldogs are a 2B ranked team.

Their first game of three was Tuesday, Sept. 19, against the Lind-Ritzville-Sprague (LRS) Broncos.

The Broncos would win the game 3-1.

The game Thursday, Sept. 21 was against the Liberty (Spangle) Lancers.

The game lasted three sets, with the Bulldogs taking all three of them.

The first game of the week was Tuesday, Sept. 19, against the Broncos.

This game would last four sets, with the Broncos taking the victory after winning three sets to one over the Bulldogs.

The game was a hard, closely fought match for both teams, with the largest set score being 25-17, which was the first set.

The only set won by the Bulldogs was the third set, where they won 27-25.

The second set score was 25-19, favoring LRS, and the fourth set saw the Broncos put the Bulldogs away, winning 25-21.

In this game, Ava Swan had 11 kills and 16 digs. Brenna Gilchrist had five kills and 16 digs, and Lauryn York added 42 assists to her season total.

Hope Fulfs had an impressive day serving for the Bulldogs. She went 19/19 on serves in the game, including three aces.

The game Thursday, Sept. 21, against the Lancers was a big win for Colfax.

Last season, the Bulldogs beat the Lancers in a five-set match up, it only took three sets this time.

The first set in the game Thursday, Sept. 21, saw the Bulldogs take care of business, and won the set 25-17, gaining the early edge over the Lancers.

The second set was the best one for the Bulldogs, who held the Lancers to just 11 points, and took the set 25-11. Colfax now leads 2-0 in sets on the day.

The third set was close than the second set, but still favored the Bulldogs, who won 25-17, sweeping the Lancers.

This game saw setter York have 27 assists, three aces, and nine digs. Swan had 10 kills, two blocks, and three aces. Hailey Demler had eight kills and 17 digs, and Gilchrist had three aces and 14 digs.

"I thought we came out better tonight. We served and received passes a little better. We were able to run a little more offense which helped with our confidence," Colfax head coach Megan Dorman said post game.

Their match up Saturday, Sept. 23, was against the Pullman Greyhounds.

The game was played in Pullman.

Last season, the Greyhounds handled the Bulldogs, winning in five sets.

This season, the Bulldogs got revenge, winning the match in four sets to upset the Greyhounds.
