SPOKANE - The Garfield-Palouse girls knocked off one higher seeded team in the state 1B tournament to come home with a third-place trophy Saturday, March 5.
The No. 5 Vikings opened with a 40-35 win over the No. 6 Mossyrock Vikings in the state quarterfinals.
The Garfield-Palouse girls opened the game with a 13-4 first-quarter lead and took a 27-14 lead into halftime. The other Vikings closed the margin in the third quarter, outscoring the Whitman County team, 14-5.
But in the final quarter, Garfield-Palouse held Mossyrock to just 7 points to win, 40-35.
