Tekoa-Rosalia boys avenge Pomeroy loss

TEKOA - The Tekoa-Rosalia boys avenged an early season loss to Pomeroy by knocking off the Pirates 65-52 on Friday, Feb. 4.

The win came during senior night; with six boys on the team being recognized before tipoff.

The Timberwolves win came when they needed a victory for a post-season berth.

The Timberwolves took a 15-9 first quarter lead and then expanded it to 31-18 by the half.

Tekoa-Rosalia maintaned that 13 point margin for the 65-52 win.

The last time the two teams met, Pomeroy stole a 2-point victory, 62-60, with a buzzer beater on Jan. 14.

Timberwolves senior Kenneth Lenoir led all scorers with 15 points. Teammates Morgun Martin added 14 and Isaac Bone 12. Nine of Lenoir's points came on shots beyond the arc.

Other scorers for the Timberwolves included Riley Gehring with 11, Braxton French with 6, Carson McDonald with 5 and Blaze Oles with 2.

McDonald was perfect from the freethrow line and Gehring shot 75% from the charity stripe.

Gehring led the Timberwolves with 11 rebounds, followed by French with 7 and McDonald with 5.

Lenoir had 4 rebounds - all defensive. Bone added 3, Oles and senior Jesus Sanchez each added 2 and Martin had 1. Bone led the Timberwolves in fouls, a total of 5.

Individual statistics were not reported for Pomeroy.

While the win propels the Timberwolves into the post-season, the local girls weren't so lucky.

The Pirate girls doubled up on Tekoa-Rosalia, 50-24.

The loss on senior mnight ended the season for the Timberwolves girls basketball team.
