Reardan rolls to Colfax to start all-NE run

Colfax boys Friday will host Reardan in an SE league round after booking a split Friday and Saturday in the giant Eagles Tournament at West Valley. The Bulldogs out-paced Okanogan 65-53 in the Friday round at West Valley, and then fell to Newport 34-54 in the Saturday round.

The loss to Newport, an A division team from the NE league, put the Colfax record at 6-2 going into the league run over the next five weeks.

Reardan will come to town after also booking a split against SE teams in the Lions tournament there last week.

They were dropped 60-51 by Oakesdale in the Friday round and came back to defeat SJEL 67-15 in the Saturday round.

Top scorer for the Indians in both games was Zane Perlberg who hit 31 of Reardan's 51 points in the Oakesdale game.

Friday at West Valley, Colfax blasted 26 points in the first quarter on the way to the 65-53 win. Okanogan never closed down the gap until the last quarter when the reserves were activated off the bench.

John Lustig finished with 20 points against Okanogan, and Blake Holman had one of his best nights of the year with 14 points.

Saturday, Colfax got off to a fast start against the big Newport team. The Grizzlies had trouble keeping control of the ball in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs booked an early 12-9 lead.

Newport began to keep pace in the second quarter, and actually took a lead right before the end of the half when Colfax grabbed it back for a 21-20 finish for the half.

After the break, Colfax offense went off the track in the third quarter and the Griz club stacked a seven-point lead.

John Lustig, who again led Colfax scorers, picked up a fourth foul in the third quarter and had to go to the bench.

Newport led 36-28 at the end of the third quarter, and Colfax picked up just three points in the first two-plus minutes of the last quarter.

Lustig, returned to action, fouled out in mid quarter, and Cole Baerlocher fouled out later in the quarter.

Michael Owen picked up points down the stretch to lead Newport with 14 points.

Newport in the Friday round edged Asotin 56-50 with a 20-point finish in the last quarter. Owen dropped 20 points against the Panthers in the Friday round.

Okanogan turned around Saturday and defeated Asotin 62-58 with Cole Tverberg hitting 18 points.

After Friday's visit here by Reardan for the league round, Colfax will travel to Colbert Tuesday to play Northwest Christian on the north side and then return home to host LRS in another league round.
