Akesson blanks Shadle; Patriots book 14 hits

Nate Akesson of Colfax pitched five innings of no-hit ball Tuesday at Jackson Field in Spokane to launch an 8-0 shutout win for the Pullman Patriots. Peyton Kallaher finished out the game for the 8-0 win.

Akesson fanned 10 Shadle batters over the five-inning start.

The Patriots hammered 14 hits in the game. They scored one run in the third inning and then broke a gap by scoring three in the top of the fifth.

The win left the Patriots at 3-1 on the season with the same Shadle team slated to play at Pullman Wednesday night.

Pullman had two errors in the game.

Mitch LaVielle had three of the Pullman hits with an RBI double and two singles. Akesson and Payton Kallaher each tagged an RBI single and a double. Reece Chadwick of Colton and catcher Tristan Wilson of Moscow each had a double and a single.

The Patriots’ sustained their first loss June 5 to the Lewis & Clark Twins at Pullman. The Twins stacked a 7-0 lead after two innings and managed to keep the lead despite a four-run rally by the Pats in the third inning.

Kelan Becker and Akesson both pitched in the game which saw the Patriots use six pitchers.

The Twins booked eight hits in last week’s game.

Wilson had two of the four Patriot hits.

After Wednesday’s rematch with Shadle, the Patriots will roll south and compete in the Tri-Cities SlugFest Friday through Sunday.
