Bulldogs softball team wraps top playoff slot

Colfax softball team swept Reardan Tuesday at McDonald Park to nail down the top finish in the NE- South league. The Bulldogs wrapped up the league campaign at 9-1 with their lone loss to Liberty.

The North and South sides of the NE will match up in inverse order for the first round of the playoffs and the grid at the start of the week has Davenport making a trip to Colfax May 14 for the first round.

Liberty, which had a 6-2 mark at the start of the week, took two big wins over the Timberwolves at Rosalia Tuesday to finish out 8-2 for the number-two slot assigned to the NE-South.

Colfax Tuesday topped Reardan 8-4 in the first game with a six-run charge in the first inning. Pitcher Jorja Koerner allowed six hits, struck out seven and walked zero for the win.

Riane Jones, Perry Imler and Kyla Hanson each doubled to top the six-hit Colfax offense. Helina Hahn, Koerner and Justice Brown added singles.

Katherine Preuscoff led the Indians’ bats with a triple and a single.

Colfax booked 14 hits to fuel the 14-2 win in the second game.

Koerner allowed seven hits, fanned five and again allowed zero walks for the win in the final league game which was stopped after five frames on the 10-run rule.

Hahn topped Colfax bats in the second game with a triple and three singles. Anni Cox doubled and paired singles, and Perry Imler doubled and singled. Other hitters were Brown, triple; Shyah Antoine, two singles; Koerner and Desi Brown, each a single.

Colfax Saturday defeated Orofino 13-3 and 13-7 at Orofino with Koerner again pitching both games. She allowed the hosts five hits in the first game and seven in the second game.

The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the fifth inning to shut the first game down on the 10-run rule. Brown and Jones each had three of the 13 Colfax hits, and Kyla Hanson rapped a triple.

In the second game, Colfax led 6-0 before Orofino scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth for a 7-6 lead. Colfax dropped the hammer with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning. Brown pitched the last inning for Colfax.

Abby Lobdell tagged three singles, and Hahn and Cox each doubled and singled for Colfax.

Tuesday’s double bill with Reardan was a league makeup for two games which were rained out March 29.

Colfax is slated to travel to Davenport today for two games and then host Colton in a non-leaguer next Tuesday.
