Gray tops field on Bryden links

Colfax senior Bennett Gray topped a field of approximately 20 golfers at Bryden Canyon in Lewiston March 28. Gray hit a three-over 39 and finished three strokes ahead of Davenport’s Kristof Panke. Augie Allenbach placed third with a 43, one stroke back of Panke.

The action at Bryden was inserted into the golfers’ schedule after their first three outings for the year were scratched because of snow or course conditions.

Gray and Allenbach return this year as seniors after again winning the all-B state team title last year in the finals at Hangman in Spokane.

Third member of the championship team last year was Chance Weitze who was a senior.

Colfax was the only team in B division last year to have three golfers make the top 20 cut for the final round.

On the girls side of the Bryden outing, Senior Cassidi Shindler carded a 50 to lead a field of just three girls in the Bryden event.

The three seniors and eighth grader Cora Shindler make up the total turnout for Coach Bill Chandler’s Colfax team this year.

He noted that doesn’t bode well for the future of a Colfax team after the threesome graduates at the end of this season.

The golf team went to Bryden after cancellations of early season outings at Tekoa, Ritzville and March 16 at Colfax.

Next action set for the golf team is set for Colville on Tuesday.
