Colfax girls post two wins for 4-1 over NE-S first lap

Colfax girls defeated Reardan 60-41 on the home boards Friday night and Tekoa/Rosalia 65-37 at Tekoa Saturday to wrap up the first lap of the SE-South league with a 4-1 record. Lone league loss for the Bulldogs came at the hands of the Lind/Ritzville/Sprague Broncos who posted an eight-point win over the Bulldogs in the first league round Dec. 14.

After that loss, the Bulldogs topped Asotin and Liberty and finished the run with two wins last weekend.

The Bulldogs will get a chance to even the ledger with LRS with a visit to Ritzville Saturday. The Broncos finished the first NE-south loop with a 3-2 mark. Asotin, now 4-1, will visit Friday for the second league round.

On the home court against Reardan Friday, the Bulldogs staked a 22-19 lead over the Indians at the half and then bombed the guests 24-8 in the third quarter on the way to a 60-43 win.

Feature for Colfax was a run of four three-point shots by senior guard Taylre Sakamoto-Howell. She hit two of them back-to-back to prime the Bulldogs' charge.

Reardan junior guard Emma Wiedner went one-up on Taylre by hitting five three-pointers for the game.

Freshman Asher Cai led the Colfax scoring with 20 points against Reardan and she hit another 20 Saturday at Tekoa.

Friday at Tekoa, Colfax pulled away from the Timberwolves with a 25-20 lead at the half.

Cai booked 10 steals in the game to go along with a second 20-point night on offense.

Elise Wilkins led the Timberwolves with nine points, including a pair of toss shots.

Colfax had 22 steals off the Timberwolves.
