First and second-place teams in the Southeast 1B league, Garfield/Palouse (6-0) and Sunnyside Christian (5-1) meet again Friday at Sunnyside.
Gar/Pal took the first game between the two 30-20 Sept. 7.
Last week, with a forfeit by Touchet for their Homecoming game, the Vikings got another win to go to 6-0 while Sunnyside Christian (5-1) beat Colton Oct. 5 for the second time.
If the Knights, at home, can beat Gar/Pal, a split of the league lead ensues with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Further in league standings, Colton and Pomeroy are tied for third, both at 3-3. St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse (1-5) holds fifth and Touchet (0-6) sixth.
Touchet forfeits Gar/Pal Homecoming
The Garfield/Palouse vs. Touchet Homecoming game Oct. 5 was canceled due to not enough eligible players for the Indians (grades and injuries).
Gar/Pal Homecoming activities went on, including the dance Saturday night. Royalty will now be recognized at halftime of the Oct. 19 game against St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse.
The forfeit was Touchet's second of the season to Gar/Pal. The Sept. 1 season opener was also canceled on account of ineligible players.
Sunnyside Christian 60, Colton 42
Sunnyside Christian beat the Wildcats again last Friday at Colton.
The score stayed close into the third quarter before the Knights got the last three touchdowns of the game, also taking two fourth-quarter interceptions.
Colton led 42-36 before Sunnyside Christian seized control to the end.
Wildcats quarterback Parker Druffel threw 25-for-44 for 311 yards in the game, and rushed 13 times for 156 yards. Luke Vining caught 11 passes for 164 yards and Reece Chadwick had 11 for 60 yards.
Colton will play at home again Friday against St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse. Gametime is 7 p.m.
Pomeroy 58, St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse 24
St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse met Pomeroy in St. John Oct. 5 for Homecoming and went down 58-24.
Shut out the first time they played the Pirates this year, S.J.E.L. scored in each quarter this time.
"We were able to run the ball on them fairly well," said Rich Hallenius, first-year Eagles coach. "We're improving every time we play."
Chase Anderson and Doug Stach had most of the carries for the Eagles (1-4) while Stach and safety Wyatt Walker, a sophomore, led the defense.
At quarterback, starter Trey Fleming played most of the way with freshman backup Damian Demler making his first appearance in a game on offense, taking a series of snaps.
Senior running back/defensive end Conr Hergert went of the game with an elbow contusion and junior Dylan Campbell, the other defensive end/tight end, went down with an ankle injury.
Both are expected to play Friday at Colton.
