Slowpitch to return to WIAA

A motion to revitalize slow pitch softball during the fall was approved by the WIAA executive board at its April 22 meeting. League action could start next fall and a state tournament would be the following year.

Slow pitch had been sanctioned by the WIAA, but it was dropped in the 1990s when interest dropped and a state tournament was discontinued.

Greater Spokane League and Columbia Basin Big 9 now offer softball.

The Spring softball season in the NE League is fast pitch softball, which allows the pitcher to wind up with an arm rotation before the pitch.

Fall sports for girls in the NE League now includes volleyball and cross country for girls.
