Playoff road starts for Colton, Gar/Pal baseball

The postseason arrives next week in 1B baseball as Colton, the no. 1 seed from the Southeast 1B league/District Nine, will play Odessa, the no. 2 team from District Seven, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Northwest Christian in Colbert. Garfield/Palouse, the no. 3 team from the Southeast 1B, will play the same day at 11:30 a.m. vs. the yet-to-be-determined No. 4 seed from District 7, also at Northwest Christian. Pomeroy took the Southeast 1B’s no. 2 seed.

Colton splits with Pirates

Playing at Pomeroy for a doubleheader Saturday, April 28, Colton lost 5-0 in the first game before taking the second, 10-6. Pomeroy’s Hogan Heytvelt, a senior, threw a five hit shutout, striking out 12 Colton batters and walking four.

In the second game, at the plate for Colton (14-5, 11-1 league), Cameron Bean and Reece Chadwick both had two hits and two RBIs while Kian Ankerson also delivered two hits.

Colton will play non-league Potlatch at home Thursday to complete the regular season.

Colton 11, Garfield/Palouse 8

At Garfield Monday, the Vikings (8-7, 6-6) and Colton went to extra innings as Evan Weagraff hit a sacrifice fly for Gar/Pal and Blake Jones an RBI-single to tie the game at 8-8 in the seventh inning.

Colton scored three runs in the eighth, starting with a sacrifice fly from Cameron Bean, which scored Matt Wolf, before Reece Chadwick hit an RBI-triple and Parker Druffel drove home Chadwick with another sacrifice fly.

At the plate for the Wildcats, Bean led in the game with two hits and four RBIs.

Garfield/Palouse will conclude the regular season Thursday with a non-league game against the Colfax J.V. at Garfield at 4 p.m.

“We wanted to finish in the top three, make the playoffs and see what happens from there,” said Gar/Pal coach Mike Jones.
