Colfax advances to NE final four

Colfax baseball players dropped Wilbur-Creston 15-2 in five innings Tuesday at McDonald Park in the first round of the district playoffs. The win advances the Bulldogs to the second district round Monday when they will mix it up with the other three finalists.

The Wildcats posted two runs in the top of the first inning, and had a 2-1 lead on the table until Colfax scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control of the game.

Parker Huber fanned nine WC batters and allowed just one hit in the taking the playoff win.

Bulldog bats finished with 12 hits with Nathan Akesson rapping a single, double and triple. Kelan Becker paired doubles, and Blake Bodey added a double

Wilbur/Creston faced Colfax in the second game Tuesday after they hammered Reardan 17-2 in the first game at McDonald .

Other qualifiers for Monday’s Medical Lake round were St. George’s, Kettle Falls,and Asotin.

The Panthers, who hosted Tuesday as the number-two team on the south side, shut out Northwest Christian 6-0 to bag their slot in the second round.

The four teams in the district final at Medical Lake will play for one of three slots assigned to the NE in the state regional round.

Colfax will be paired against Kettle Falls, the number-two finisher on the north side. The K-dogs eliminated Liberty 7-6 in the qualification game at Kettle Tuesday.

Game time for the Colfax-Kettle game Monday is at 10:30.

Asotin and St. George’s will pair off in the first game.

Winners of the first two games will play for regional slots one and two. The losers will play for the third slot.

Colfax bagged the playoff slot after they defeated St. George’s 7-4 Friday in a game which matched the winners of the north and south sides of the NE campaign. The win left the Bulldogs at 17-1 going into the district playoffs.

Colfax Friday led 7-1 until the last inning when St. George’s charged for three runs.

Huber pitched into the fifth inning, and freshman Layne Gingerich finished the game for the Bulldogs.

Colfax had eight hits off two Dragon pitchers. Huber homered and doubled to lead the Colfax bats. Akesson had two doubles and Kyle Appel had two hits. Bodey doubled and Cal Gregory singled for the other Colfax hits.

St. George’s also had eight hits, but just one of them for extra bases. The Dragons were also charged with eight errors. Colfax had one error.

The win marked a sweep for the Bulldogs against teams in the NE leagues.
